E15 is coming!

Mine has always had an issue with that in the summer, Edelbrocks have the bowls mounted low and are good for it. I also have an electric fuel pump which helps alleviate some of it. Fuel boils out and floods the engine but it is instantly reprimed when I turn it back on. I did block the exhaust crossover in the intake and had a 1/2" spacer too.

It would hot start right away great, let it sit for 10min and it would be flooded. Like I said it did it with everything, I never really noticed ethanol being any worse but every setup will be different.

Edelbrocks are notoriously horrible for it and that is one of the reasons I am currently putting EFI in it.
"Edelbrocks are notoriously horrible". Period. Shiny turds with soggy throttle response. That's why I run Holleys.

Northern Maine isn't part of the N-RFG range. There seem to be 4 main blends of gasoline in the USA: standard, northeastern reformulated, southeastern reformulated, and California. N-RFG is year-round E10 blend with added oxidizer and no benzene. In the winter they dilute it with butane and that causes the boiling issue. I have an electric fuel pump and I have the line wrapped in spark plug wire heat insulation. I have been calling the gas companies in hopes of them committing to carrying at least one type of gas that does not exceed 10% ethanol. I remember looking at pure-gas years ago and discovering all the locations in MA sell in cans only.

I am trying to move north, though. I don't know if I'd make it farther than New Hampshire. As much as I like to pretend that becoming a woodsman is the ideal way to live out my days I sure like getting a paycheck every two weeks.

If your serious about migrating North.. do NOT settle in NH lol. No sales tax.. yeah.. but property taxes are absolutely 100% batshit insane. I have a buddy who lives in Sandown.. under an acre lot.. 900sq ft house.. 10,000 dollar tax bill a year.

My mother has 5 acres and a 2k-ish sq ft house about 20 minutes north of Portland and she pays HALF of that. My best friend has 20 acres and a trailer an hour north of Portland and his tax bill is 800 a year.. another buddy has like 40 acres and a log cabin a little east of bangor near the coast and hes only hit for around 2k a year..

I'm not sure how expensive Vermont is to live in... But it's certainly a beautiful state.. and it's pretty even as to how far north it is compared to NH so.. mabey that's your ticket.

15 years and that was my only real complaint. Throttle response was excellent, it was very reliable and got pretty good mileage.

Fortunately, I live in a state where we have a choice at the pump. Most stations here offer E10 and regular, no corn. Several have three nozzles. Red is E85. Yellow is E10. Black is 87, 89 91 no alcohol. Also there are several stations selling 93 octane. My three bikes appreciate it. There is one Shell station selling 100 at the pump. A station I buy 93 from, you can give him a five gallon container, he goes round the back, come out with it full of purple great smelling Sunoco 110. Guys with old school hotrods pour it in there tanks right there.

Besides, look at what is happening in commiefornia. The two top contenders for Guvnor are Republican. And in commiefornia, the two top contenders go on the ballot. Imagine that, two Republicans could be on the ballot, no demonrats. One of the top contenders says CARB is gone his first day on the job. Even the dimwits are starting to ape that. CA is looking to eliminate smog checks, and it is POPULAR with the people there.

I live in a state with no smog checks. It is a small slice of heaven.

i didn;t even know what e10, e15, e30, etc was till i opened this thread.

i geuss its not really something that talk about much here in south texas.

Because you’re in oil country not farm country.

Ethanol in the US is a Government supported use of genetically modified food (corn) to make fuel. The original push for it was under the guise that it’s more eco-friendly except if you think pollen from a GMO ethanol cornfield can’t travel miles and affect other corn, you’re fooling yourself. The idea was that some countries use sugarcane to produce ethanol which is much more effective than GMO corn and you don’t have to destroy your food supply using sugarcane.

that is where the farms all changed over to growing that weird corn because they were supposed to make more money off it? it turned out to be a flop but now we not only have fuel issues, we also had food supply issues?

There is a lot of feed corn grown here for livestock and a lot for ethanol too but I don't know if they're the same. Tastes like crap. Deer and birds love it though and it makes them taste good?

I don't get the E15 deal. Thought it was supposed to be a winter blend thing to cut smog. I swear I have seen it year round. Is 5% more really saving the atmosphere that much when E10 is always available? And if there's more smog with E15 then what about E85? Mega smog?

we have lots of deer corn farms around here. i guess they do corn certain times of the year and then cotton on other times because i see both of those on the same farms? i didn't realize the deer corn was different and once i stopped to ask a farmer about it. he let me pick some and we tried it. not good at all but the animals do love it

But if we didn't use GMO corn how else could monsanto sue farmers 16 miles away from the monsanto corn.. who don't PLANT monsanto corn.. for having monsanto corn thanks to pollenation or whatever?

It wasn’t a bright idea from the start, which is why the corn had to be modified and the farmers and stuff compensated by the Government. Of course, like a lot of things that affect our food supply, those in “power” don’t really want to talk about it.

It started as some places would offer E15 and E85 for the “flex fuel” vehicles, then it became let’s add up to 5% to regular gas then a maximum of 10% in regular gas to “help reduce “fossil fuel” use and better for the environment”. Studies have shown that above 10% and it really gets bad for engines and fuel systems not designed to handle ethanol. Yet here we are.

You’re catching on. Better shine up your tin foil hat before the Feebs catch wind, lol

There are hybrids that are better for ethanol, guys that grow it usually have contracts with ethanol companies to sell it at a premium. Because of its value it doesn't make it into the local co-op, regular corn can go either way but doesn't command the premium at the distiller.

Corn has been changed a lot by selective planting and genetic. It grows much bigger/faster with better yields, more resilient, insect resistant etc in addition to the obvious genetic modification that helps it work with chemicals.

Distance and timing are how you avoid cross pollination.

I know go guys that grow pop corn and pop corn buyers are anal about cross-pollination because it is very obvious. They have to take their combine apart and shop vac it out when they switch from yellow corn to popcorn, too much of the wrong kind and they will reject it. Same with white corn and sweetcorn (which has more sugar than most corn) Cross pollination is beyond bad... but manageable.

When corn is still selling for next to nothing ethanol production is not hurting our food supply. Besides that the solid leftovers are still used as human food and livestock feed anyway.

That hats been shinin' like a diamond in a goats ass ever since the Obama era when I first learned about monsanto and how many of their top people have managed to worm their way into the FDA over the years.

Nothing to see here folks..
