I am guessing the cable went to the throttle kinna looks like the one on my jeep. Did you get rid of all the emission stuff maybe those wires are for the O/D if you have it. Someone here will know by the pics. I have a 83 ranger and only had to splice one wire for the ignition, the green to the coil I got the harness for the dizzy from a 84 4cyl ranger. I wanted it plug and play ready. For your truck you can do the same you just need to cut and splice two wires for the power to the module if your going with the stock coil.
i do have overdrive. So i can just take the round cruise control thing out? If anyone else could chime in i would like to get this done tomorrow but i dot know about those wires. I cant see where it goes or find it under the truck.
I am pretty sure it is not for the ignition dont cut any wires you dont know where they go. Any wires you do cut leave them long enough to splice later if necessary.
thats the ones i cut, they go for your backup lights, t/c lockup and neutral safety. leave those in tact, i couldnt get mine out without cutting em so now i get to wire them back up
If it dont work and you have no plans on making it work yea pull it and plug the vacuum lines. The first thing I did was remove anything not being used wires, vacuum lines, sensors, solenoids. I hate loose wires the only wires I needed to cut were at the 8 wire connector by the coil. I cut the computer power wire but left the power to the coil and cut the coil neg wire and spliced the green from the module into it. With the 83-84 power to the module is just plugging it in the colors are backwards but is correct. 85 takes two cuts and splices to power the module correct but real easy once you understand it.
OK so the wiring on this truck is going to kill me(never buy a car from a farmer). There the big square plug on the drivers side, i traced some of the wires which go down behind the firewall in the cluster above. Then some go to the dizzy and some go to another plug on the firewall. What should i do with all these wire. Should i cut them? They are all spliced into other wires at atleast 6 different spots. Its amazing that anything even ran on this truck.
Basically dont cut anything that dont have anything to do with the computer. Trace the harness for the computer back to the coil to the 8 wire connector from that connector strip it back to the alternator you need the water temp, oil pressure and alternator wires. You see there are only a couple wires that went to the computer that need to be cut to pull that harness out. You may have the O/D lockout and A/C or cruise wires any wires you cut cut them long enough to splice back if you need to. The neg for the coil and power for the computer was all I needed to cut to remove the harness and the power for the computer was the power for the coil also you will see the splice when you strip the harness of tape and plastic. I designated a whole day to wiring alone and less than 10% was in wiring the duraspark the rest was just being careful not to cut wires being used and putting the harness back together with the good wires nice and neat and insulated and strapped.
The computer and wires go away along with the sensors solenoids and vacuum lines just take out what is not being used except the 0-2 sensor and temp sensor they just plug the holes.
