It has been a while since i posted as the ranger never recovered from what ever the issue was. I have recently stumbled on a decent 91-92 Bronco 2. Over all the body is in good shape as is the int. the tread isnt half bad ither. The guy is selling it thinking the oil pump is out and worried it is going to go on em. I test drove the truck and there is no lifter noise or any other signs of lack of oiling. I am thinking the dummy gauge is out. I do not really want to put a oil press gauge on it in front of the guy and it show good pressure lol the 600 dollar price tag may go up. I would say it has been driven 100 plus miles since the dummy gauge shows no pressure. The needle dosnt move it just sits below low. any info on how quick systems of low pressure would show up.

I thought i would add that it dose come with a second motor but who knows what shape it is in. it appears to be a salvage pull due to all the wiring just being cut off but it is complete alt dizz cap wires and every thing else.

The way that I look at it, anytime you buy a used vehicle you take a chance. At least you know what you might be getting into with this one. I would say go for it, but that's just me. If it was a bad oil sending unit, I would think that the dude would've tried that (especially if he has a complete motor sitting there with sensors and all). There is a chance that the gauge itself is on its way out. If you have to clean or replace the oil pump I was able to take mine out and clean it with the motor in (I did this when I replaced my oil pan gasket). Mind you it was a PITA, but still could be done. The spare motor might not be in great shape, but with it out you could test out the bearings with those plastic strips and do a leak down test etc., etc. If it's in okay shape you could always just do a simple rebuild with a gasket set and have a fresh motor on hand.

I'd think if it had been run for any length of time with absolutely no oil pressure it would be making some noise. For 600 bucks I think I'd risk it. More than likely a gauge problem.

the guy actualy bought it for his kid and it came with that motor too. I dont think he want to mess with it to much because he was one of the poor souls that helped me change my oil pump in the ranger with out pulling the motor. I had him on the jack on the tranny and he gave a shot at the torxs holding it in and he knows its not one for the weary ha ha. Yah Im sure im going to buy it. I just dont want another nightmare like the ranger. Tho i do have alot of tools from that experience and quite a bit of know how with the 2.9 after that episode even tho in the end i could not get it running right i still loved that truck.

Take it out on the highway for a nice drive, get it nice and warm / nice constant 70-75mph (or whatever you speed limit is there). If no ticking or noises when you get back into the city off the exit ramp, it's probably a good engine.
