Will the left side gauge cluster in an 84 Ranger swap out with the one for a 85 that has the moving needles for the oil, temp, and amps? Are the connectors plug and play or do I need to get the sensors also?

Idk about the amp and temp gauge but I know with the dummy lights you have to change the sensor as well for oil because the one for the light is just a switch and not an actual needle gauge sensor. I believe it'll still work but the needle wont actually move, it will just work the same as the light does (on or off).

Definitely keep us updated on problems and solutions though, I have an 85 with the lights I want to swap out for needles.

I have tried to find a cluster with the tach to fit my 83 to no avail the plug is different. you would need a oil pressure sending unit and I wouldnt know how to make the amp guage work it is wired different on the schematic. It may very well be plug and play as long as the plug is the same on back I would be very careful and make sure everything is good before connecting the battery. You would need to change the whole cluster you cant change half.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I think when I grab the gauge cluster from the junkyard I will grab the senders also. Does anyone have a quick response on where each is located?

From what I can tell it looks like there are two types of temp sending/sensors.
Now I just need the location

Looks like there are also two types of oil pressure sensors.
I need the location also.

As far as the Amp sensor/sending unit I am having a hard time finding anything.

Also if I replace the gauges is there a way to roll the odometer to the correct mileage?

it is not legal to do so in my state as of a lot of people used to roll the mileage way back and sell the vehicle's as a ''low mileage'' vehicle, but you can put a variable speed drill on the speedo cable and run it up or down to your correct mileage, as for the temp and oil pressure sender's/switches, I'm guessing you are trying to just swap the left side of the gauge cluster from the junkyard one into your's, if so, I don't believe you can, because IIRC they are internally sealed, and the circuitry is different on the back, if I am right, then you have two option's, 1: go with the tach and only have temp and fuel, or no tach and have oil, amps, temp, and fuel in the stock gauge cluster,

I am planning on going without the tach. The truck already has one mounted separate. I am thinking when I pull the gauge cluster from the junkyard I will just pull all the senders from the diner vehicle. I just need to know where they are loacated.

ok, the oil sender should be below the left (drivers side) exhaust manifold, temp sensor should be near the T stat housing I believe
