i am trying to figure out if there is any diffrence in sound and performance if i switch from 2 single in and single out to just one dual in and dual out mufflers. this is on a 2002 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 no converters.
do you mean you have true duals right now and you want to know if changing from one muffler on each pipe to one muffler for both pipes will help or sound different???
Better keep your current emissions status very very low key.
they ban you for that on here. and scold you.
I've never ran anything other than a 40, a cammed up 355 was pushing it so I dunno.
youtube it, or use search... lot of guys have swapped mufflers on 4.0's for that perfect sound and posted results.
im not to sure about a 40 it is to big and not much to build up pressure on the 4.0 i would go with 50s they are a bit bigger and have more in the inside to build up pressure so you dont burn up valves and to keep it from popping and cause u dont have cats to help keep the pressure up in the system.
but as for ur plan it should work just dont plan on having anymore power than what u do have it should sound better than what u have now. do u have a cross over pipe or Hpipe or Xpipe?
leave a h-pipe, or go with a 2 in 2 out,if you use a muffler(not bottles)it will give you some back pressure that engines need to work good, put them out the side, and when you crank on a street lind with buildings, everyone will know your comming!!!
yea u really need sometime type of crossover in ur system its not to good on small v6s to have straight pipes off the motor im sure it sounds kinda funny without one like a baby drag car hahahahaha no but really u need one
that muffler will act similar to an equalizer pipe (though less efficient). an EQ acts to maintain scavanging on a true dual system. running without one will likely decrease performance (though probably not by enough for the 'ol butt dyno to detect)....and cause the truck to soun...like others have said...like 2 3 cylinders fighting one another. an EQ evens the tone out.
