What I think is a damper or maybe a balancer on my 04 Ranger separated in the rubber section where it attached to the driveshaft. I ended up removing the driveshaft to remove this damper/balancer. Truck drives fine with no vibrations. Anyone else have this part fail on their truck?

Yeah I've seen it happen before. If you have no vibrations. don't worry about it.

I think it's about as effective as the "anchor" that is bolted on the rear of a transfercase. I've run with and without them and NEVER noticed any difference. (afterall, it's a TRUCK!)

Mine fell off, I just unbolted the driveshaft and pulled it off, going on 30,000 miles now. No issues. mine's a '97.

I actually found a really good use for those damper rings. I have one of those manual tire changers and wanted to use it on 8 inch ATV tires but the offset of the rim was in the center and it was too deep for the plate to touch it. I took one look at one of them that I had setting in the scrap pile and it was love at first sight. I used a sawzall to slice the rubber out around the ring and when I tried it, it fit perfectly to fill the gap between the plate on the tire changer and the center of the rim. BTW, if you REALLY want a replacement I will GIVE you one for the cost of shipping plus one dollar for running it to the post office. I probably have over ten of them laying around right now waiting to go the scrap yard once I get enough junk to make the trip worth it.

This was a good thread to read, I just did my clutch and then right as I was finishing it up, boom! That collar fell off.

I took it for a test drive without it, and it drove better than ever, and my shift lever doesn't shimmy any more (of course that could have been the clutch too).
