It would be impossible for me to be the only 2000 ford ranger owner to have a drivers bucket seat hinge issue. As in the seat back will not stay upright. Finding replacement seats doesn’t seem to be economically viable. Any input is appreciated.

Is the mechanism itself broken and the seat back is floppy due to that? If so, i don't have great news for you...

My 94's driver bucket seat back mechanism was broken. I didn't find any viable repair options. I've been on the hunt for decent seats from the bone yard since I got it.

The good news is that there are a LOT of options for direct bolt in replacements. Here is an article with some of those options:

I found a set of buckets out of an 05 Mazda CX-5 (i think???) that i was able to modify (flat stock steel strap) to work for now. almost ANYTHING will work, just depends how much you want to modify it. My only complaint about my modified seat is that it doesn't 'flip' forward enough for someone to squeeze into the rear easily.

Here's what mine currently looks like:

It's fairly common just doesn't get talked about much anymore... my '97 had a broken seat when I got it and the arm rest was ripped off (someone was apparently leaning all the way over a lot). I know it's an issue so I avoid leaning back too hard... On the list of things to do is figure out what it would take to fix up the stock seat since it's foam is likely less bad than the '94 seat I replaced it with...

There's a seat list in the tech library section, the easiest seats to find are Explorer seats through '01 I think, as long as you don't have airbags in your seats at least, then it gets more complicated.

After disassembly I found two broken bolts. One on each side of the seat. They connect lower part of back rest to the spring loaded adjuster. Should be easily fixable. Seat foam and fabric is tired and gross. 25 years of ook. Not sure it’s worth it. It will have to do until I find a better option.

If it's not too late, would you mind posting up a couple of pics of the break?

Here is a picture indicating location of failed bolt. Also a picture of said bold and a one of the fragments I extracted from a the lower part on the backrest. New’r bolts from a wrecked donor ranger. Not sure of the size. This seems to be a week spot in the seat

I found some ford leather seats hopefully I can adapt them. I can deal with a bird on the headrest. Will post results either way.

Working on the very same problem today. 2000 Ford Ranger XLT.
Will have to try to find some donor bolts myself.
Any one happen to know a part number by chance?
Ford dealer not too far from me, I'll be checking them before I stand in the Georgia heat at the pull-a-part.
Maybe I'll get lucky.

Do you have dimensions for the broken bolt?
I have some bolts from my 94 that look kind of similar that came out around the seat belt area.

One on the right looks pretty similar, but longer. One on the left looks about the right size but not the same shape.
