Drive shaft slip joint movement

I asked at a place that rebuilds drive shafts, and their price was more than a new one from NAPA because I work at NAPA, so I get a discount. After I heard the prices, I mentioned it is a aluminum drive shaft and he said they can't weld the ends on old aluminum because it deuterates with age. Well SS check is already gone for this month so I will have to wait until next month.

Well, I just ordered the drive shaft from Amazon, $622.00 with free shipping. I couldn't get it any cheaper from NAPA because they changed their employee discount.
Does anyone know the difference between the drive shafts for the FX4 level 1 and level 2? I have seen the one I ordered at different places that say it won't work on a level 2.

As far as I know, there isn't a difference. I'm pretty sure both are Supercabs and use 8.8 axles. I'm pretty sure the Level 2 has the 31 spline axle, where as the 28 spline but from what I remember the only difference between the two is the larger tubes to accomodate the larger bearings because of the bigger axle shafts. The rest should be the same.

Thanks, sgtsandman, I have wondered what the difference is between the Level 1 and level 2.
Well I installed the new drive shaft, I PITA doing it by myself especially tightening the bolts because I had to tighten a couple and then climb out from under the truck and put the truck in neutral use the wheel to turn the drive shaft about a half a turn so I could get at the other 2 bolts then do it all over again on the other end. Actually, I did tighten 2 on each end except the was 1 on the front end that I did have to move the shaft a third time because there's more stuff in the way.
This afternoon I took the rubber boot off my old drive shaft, and it doesn't look worn, but it still has the movement. If anyone would be interested in using heavy grease and using it, I would rather do that then let a scrapper take it and cut it up. I will post some pictures of it so let me know, I wouldn't mind getting a few dollars out of it but I don't have any idea if it's worth anything.
