I found this thread over on pirate. Basically trying to get Ballistic Fabrications to produce a doubler kit.

I figure the best way is to post up there showing our support or interest in having these made. More aftermarket options for RBVs would be great and would help push our trucks/sport furthur, help me out, post there or email the company itself and tell them we NEED doublers!

:icon_confused:for those of you who dont know what Im talking about, its a kit that allows the mating of two transfer cases resulting in a stupid low crawl ratio that will increase your rigs off road capabilities tremendously. :icon_confused:

hell if they sold one id buy one!

thats what Im sayin. one of the best mods you can do to an RBV that sees alot of off road time. but we've got to communicate the interest to them (plead, beg, harrass, and threaten) and get em to build the damn things.

What is the cost for a doubler adapters and mounts? estimated?

good question. not sure what others have paid for the D.D. machine setup??? i would say $300-500 for the shaft and adapter plate. Which is still only about a quarter of the price of an atlas, and you get to keep your stock low range. Maybe someone will chime in on what theyve paid for other kits in the past.

You should be able to fab your own custom crossmember/skid/mount fairly cheap....I dont think they would offer one with it as there are alot of different applications.

A lot of us don't need a $1000 kit but very interested in a properly treated reliable shaft that connects the homemade kit or maybe a shaft and a plate would even be better. Some thing like that for $300 or so would be awesome. It has to be reasonably priced for the RBV market.

yeah having a manufacturer that makes decent shafts and sold them individually would be awesome and give alot of DIY'rs the chance to put one together on the cheap.

"Two piece shafts" are definately the weak link in a home built doubler although some have had them work with no problems and having just one turned at a machine shop would expensive.

I could definately use a lower crawl ratio when it gets steep in the in the rocks with my 2.9l, 4.56's, and 33s the stock case just doesnt cut it and my clutch takes the heat...shoulda went 5.13s.

You cant compare it to an atlas in any way shape or form. The Atlas will always be 10X the quality and strength of our stock parts

10x is that a scientific figure? there are plenty of people running doubler kits that wheel their rigs into the ground and their doubler built stock t cases do just fine.

an atlas will run you at LEAST $2K, and yes they are awesome but some guys dont have that much into their entire rigs. Granted the quality and strength of them is high so is the price.

With a doubler kit your looking at spending well under and on up to $1000 and thats after driveshafts, etc.

Yeah, that would matter more if people were actually breaking the stock parts with some regularity, but it's just not that often you see sheared outputs and stuff on RBV cases.

I paid $360 for my D.D. Machine kit back in '07 IIRC. Last I heard they were up to $499 or thereabouts.

As for companies offering shafts alone, this has been requested of D.D. Machine and some others. The problem is you cannot guarantee them unless you also include the adapter plates. There is just too much left to chance if you are supplying shafts to end-users who are building their own adapter plates. A misaligned shaft will not only cause problems such as the case popping out of gear, but it can fatigue the shaft itself as well, causing it to fail completely (which potentially could come back on the company selling them). Being that the shaft itself is 70% of the cost of the whole kit, it's much more cost-effective for a company to sell it as a kit together with the plates. If Ballistic Fab picks up on this, we will finally have a good established company making these kits for our trucks. So far it's only been individuals or small low-volume outfits making them, which has led to a lot of frustration for too many RBV owners.

I never said they where cheap but much stronger. the input and outputs are not the problem but as with jeep TC's the problem usually chain related. I have wheeled many class 4 to 5 trails in the southwest with an XJ with an NP231 with fixed yoke. I am not new to chain driven cases but they are not near as strong as the gear driven TC's. like the atlas or NP205

I enjoy using what is considered underrated rigs and or parts to prove that the tough trails can be conquered without high dollars. I am looking for an auto 4X ranger now to build up for a trail rig

I can see the advantages of gear driven cases. An adapter kit to mate say a dana 300 or other TC with aftermarket low range kits right up to rbv transmissions would be cool too.

Ive seen some very well built cheap/budget builds. A little knowledge can go a long way in saving you money when it comes to wheeling and wrenching. :icon_cheers:

What gen ranger are you looking to buildup?

What Junkie said about the plates makes alot of sense, too much liability.

I will know the rig when I find it.or it finds me. Id like to be a gen 2 ......I might have a lead a dead one from one of the neighbors....a white standard cab

The advantage of a gear-driven case is you can twin-stick it for FWD-only. The design of a chain-driven case does not allow for disconnection of the rear driveline.

Strength is a matter of case design and size of the parts used, it has little to do with chain vs. gear (the chain-drive NVG-271 will eat a NP205 for lunch, and would likely be a pretty close match for an Atlas too).
