I wasn't really sure where to put this, it could have went in the exterior forum because it was about doors, or electrical because it was about power windows. So I just put it in here.

But anyway, I was thinking about taking a pair of doors with power windows out of a slightly newer ranger, but the same generation of course, and putting them on my truck. Since I don't currently have power windows I can't just splice the wire going from the door to the actual cab. So what I'm wondering is.. is this just a power wire that goes to the fuse box or something? Where does it actually go and how hard would it be to swap it out into my truck?

I dunno about 93 rangers (thats where the factory EVTM manual would be good), but later rangers have the power windows controlled by the generic electronic module (black box programmed for the options on the vehicle).

Depending on the wiring diagram, it should be very easy to use aftermarket controls.

Honestly I would look at your door and the door with it. Sometimes you should have the same holes and everything to just put the motor and all that in instead of a whole new door.

I'm not positive on the wiring though. But it shouldn't be too hard. I would assume that on the fuse block there would be a spot already there for power windows just with nothing running to it. If thats the case it should be simple. I don't think Ford would make a whole nother panel just without some of the power accessories on it. But I could be wrong. I would just look around and check it out first.

It's cheaper to buy the door with the stuff included than the parts for the power windows. And I don't have the door yet, but if this could work.. I might pick a pair up.. if I can find my color. I don't wanna paint.

ahh i gotcha. i have acess to a pullapart here. so i could get the guts from inside cheaper than the door with them. so i was just curious.

good luck on your search man

At the local u-pull-it I can get a door for $31 Regular price, and if I wait for the right weekend its on special for 15-20.

A power window motor costs 15 dollars. Door panel with the buttons costs 6 dollars. If I buy a door with power windows chances are I will get power locks as well, Power lock actuators cost 6 dollars as well. Unfortionately I wont have the clicky key chain thing though..

I'm guessing that the motor isn't the only part I would need? I wouldn't even know how to take one of these off let alone put it back on.

or just find a truck identical to yours same colour and everything only the other one has p/w and rub the serial numbers off and the owner will never notice, :D

edit--
opps, sorry for double post

Well, what I was thinking was that sometimes the two windows are hooked together so that the driver can open/close the passnger window without reaching over. There has to be some sort of box where they're both connected somewhere before the fuse box.. I KNOW! I'll check the windstar's, its got power windows.

Yep. Theres a bitchin' 99 right next to my truck. Sad thing is.. its got more power..

I keep saying that I want to trade vehicles with her :icon_thumby:
I can just see that with a set of subs in the back.. and still enough room for a bed. I'd put in all kinds of random performance upgrades and a custom bull bar/brush guard. Bolt on a visor and maybe a stock rear spoiler. I could make that minivan look sicknasty. In a good way.

maybe a 12" lift with some 35's, lol

No lift, unless its possible to transfer the body onto a ranger. Which I don't think it is.

Anyway, I would most likely stick with some 205ish Bogger type tires. If they make them that small. I know that 205 fits pretty snug on the windstar, its what we have on it now. I of course would go wider than what we have, which is 205-60R15. and maybe go with a 205-75-R15 if possible.

I was bored and made a picture. I call it "The Gator"
When I do build it, its going to have some sicknasty alligator airbrushed onto the side.

---Edit---
I just noticed that this is missing something very important. A TRS banner across the windshield under the visor.

A guy I work with used to have an old 80s Caravan with a gnarly brushguard and all-terrain tires that he and his brothers used to beat/take snowboarding......
