Does anyone know about driving doorless in ct? I know jeeps can but I don't know if its legal for anything else

I was wonderig about the same for michigan. Im thinking about making tube doors for my truck. I think as long as i put mirriors on them there shouldnt be a problem with them. But idk

Google your states motor vehicle act or whatever its called... Find the pertinent section and start reading.

We have a list of (possibly) outdated lift laws in the info section, but it doesn't include anything on doors.

It seems odd to me that you would be allowed to run a Jeep without doors but nothing else, but perhaps they get some exception 'cause they are designed from the factory like that?

Running w/o doors? Geeze I installed doors on my Polaris RZR to keep the mud off and to prevent sticks from spearing me. Wouldn't run w/o them.

Well I ran doorless today all day and didn't have any issues. I figured if jeeps could do it why can't I. I did some research though and all I can come up with for ct is if you have a rearview mirror and wear your seatbelts your good

Ding ding ding ding!!!! You got it.

In many places it is illegal to drive without the doors on in anything but a Jeep Wrangler. The Wrangler is unique in the vehicle kingdom for this ability because it was specially designed for being driven without the doors.

Next time you are near a Wrangler take a close look at the door openings and compare them to any other vehicle on the market. You will notice two things are markedly different.

1) The mirror mounts to the A-pillar, not the door. This means you can remove the door and leave the mirror.

2) The floor lip. Most vehicles on the road have no lip at the bottom of the door, the opening is flush with the rest of the floor if not a little lower. The Wrangler has a 3 inch lip at the bottom of the door to help stiffen the body (a function of a closed door on other vehicles) and prevent stray objects from rolling out onto the road, a situation which poses a potential safety hazard to other vehicles on the road.

I didn't think about the mirror part, but my caravan mirrors aren't on the doors. That took a while to get used to when opening the door on the side of the road lol

The lip was one of the things I thought about with the Jeep... And how everybody seems to be okay with whatever, as long as the Manufacturer made it that way. As soon as its a modification then people get pissy.

My 97 Wrangler's mirrors are on the doors.

almost all states can run doorless. and all states can run doorless with paperwork.

many jeeps have door mounted mirrors and pillar/cowl mount mirrors are options. so they need to be properly fitted with mirrors to run doorless like anything else.

early broncos are set to be doorless and topless. scouts and broncos toyotas and several others have insert half door options.

you live in the united states of america, stand up for liberty.

and to the mi guy tube doors are a non issue.

Yup.

In Michigan they don't really care what you do to a vehicle. At least much less so than a lot of other states.

Otherwise I believe there's DOT laws that you need 2 mirriors. Either one side mirror and a rear view mirror or two side view mirrors. If you satisfy that requirement you're generally good.

I stand up for liberty. On the other hand I think driving around without a door on your car is about the dumbest thing you can do, design intent or not.

^^^What he said. My 06 Wrangler has tube doors...only for when we go off road. I would never take off the doors on my Ranger or my other trucks...ever!!! Really stupid to do so. Even if offroading only you can kill yourself or somebody you love. Jeeps have roll bars from the factory and are safer that way to run with tube or no doors. If you put a full cage in the truck you will be much safer if you want to run doorless offroad.

1 drivers side exterior mirror and 1 other mirror (either on the exterior passenger side or one center mounted interior.) is usually the requirement. The exception is, if there is a mount, it has to be there. (you cant roll into inspection with the passenger mirror busted off.)

In NJ, you cant legally tint any windows without both exterior mirrors.

If I ran around without doors all the junk laying on the floor would end up in the road. Would have to fab up something to prevent that. Don't like bouncing through the woods without top or doors though. Every time you smash through some foliage you end up with bugs crawling in places you never thought they could get to. Remember when you are in the jungle or the woods its not the animals that will screw you up its the bugs and the plants that will put a hurtin' on ya.
