Door Won't open from inside

The passenger door on my 92' ranger won't open from the inside so I removed the door skin and found there is a cable that remindes you of a bicycle brake cable that was broken at the door release lever in the middle of the door. The local dealer told me the cable will set me back very close to @#$%$&^%& $200! I was wondering if any else has run across this problem and what they did for a fix?

i would make a rod.

I think jegs of summit racing or JC witney have a repair kit. the same thing happen to my Saturn but the whole door would not open, try getting across a stick shifter and hand breake from a bucket seat. scary

Found a cable for a 93-97 on Ebay for $25 (Click)

I'm almost 100% it wont fit your truck, but it'll give you an idea of price lol.

I stopped at the junkyard and called another and they didn't have one for me so I thought what do I have to loose? Went the the donor truck 91' which has rods and swapped out the whole door mechanism and it fit just fine. When I asked the Ford parts guy about it the other day he said "oh, that won't work, the lenghts on the rods won't match up". Ha Ha........ I still have the left over parts in the bed of my truck and in the morning I will take a look and see but believe it or not it looks like it just may work. This darn door had me speaking in tongues trying to attach the rod for the door lock. Finally I left everthing loose and shoved the rod through the hole were the lock was to go and hooked up outside the door and fished it back down in the hole. What a PIA!!
