My credo
Why should I pay someone else to screw it up when I can screw it up myself for free?
I park on a slope and my drivers door won't stay open very well and slams shut on my leg sometimes. I have a plastic shim in there right now to provide more tension but I'm still hoping for a fix. The plastic cam wheel thingy is almost rounded out with no detents. Is there a way to buy and replace the spring and cam wheel and then replace just that part without removing the door or hinge? My only other option is to wear shin guards. Thanks

I believe the only answer this issue is to replace the whole hinge.

Or back into your parking spot so the door flops open and dents your neighbor’s car.

^^ Thanks, I think you're right. They aren't that expensive @ less than $45 and separate hinge parts don't seem to be available. Looks like I'll need to paint the new hinge. I can't park backwards or the bed traps rainwater. It's a shame the hinge pins are nice and tight; it's just that detent/opener and cam piece that are worn out.

Once you replace it, make sure you oil/grease it on a regular basis. Might not make it last any longer, but it will make you feel like it is going too.

I use white lithium grease in a spray can for the hinges and door latches. I do it twice a year but you could probably get away with once a year.
