This dang door ajar switches are a pain. I bought this 02 4x4 4.0 sup cab. About two and a half years ago. The dome light was and is gone all of it. And the ajar light stays on with key on. I have pulled both switches out of the front two doors and cleaned and tested ohms. Still the same, haven't ruled out short in wiring. But is there switches also in the two rear doors. If so in the top latch or the bottom latch. With all the seat belt stuff how do you get panels off the dang thing.

I don't know about the rear doors, but I do know that the most likely place for a short is in the rubber tube from the door to the A pillar. Ran into that issue with moms 2002 Explorer. I fought to repair that in place because I wasn't sure about other methods at the time. If that is the case, you may be able to pull he door panel and the kick panel in the cab. Unplug the harness in the cab behind the kick panel and fish it back into the door to work on it.

door ajar switches

I had some time this afternoon so pulled my rear doors down. And the answer to my question is.Yes the rear doors on my 2002 ranger has door ajar switches. And they are at the bottom latches. The drivers side rear door was my problem. Problem fixed.:yahoo:

Good to know. Thanks for the update.

There are two switches per latch (at least on the 1995 which AFAIK has the same latch). The door ajar switch is at the bottom, and the handle switch (used for the security system and will also cause stuck dome lights) is in the side. Both get gummed up over time and can be restored with WD-40 (no need to buy new ones in most cases). They are indeed a PITA to get to, but at least they're serviceable.
