disciplerocks's B2 build thread

i dont think it would be hard to do some real mirrors on it...
something like a round mirror with tubes around it to protect it.

I would just go to the junkyard and find some small door mount mirrors and just bolt them on. Easy.

Something like this:

Just use those factory flag mirrors. They're junk anyway... use a #11 drill bit and the factory bolt fits just tight enough to thread in. They fold in tight enough off-road to not be a problem, but are there enough to keep Johnny Law at bay. :icon_thumby: Like so...

^Thats probably what I'll end up doing.

andre hating on my mirrors man.... come on!

lol, i want those doors tho. at least i'd have a cup holder then!

Got a bit further on the half door. Sorry no pic today. I never thought it would be so hard to do this with flux core. It just gets too damn hot too quick.

Also finally got my starter replaced so no more grinding :yahoo:

Turn up the Wire feed, I'm welding a bunch of body panels on a 67 Mustang, and if I use the setting that it says too, It will burn through, but if you turn up the wire feed, it works great, at least it does for me, and this is the first welder I have use since 87 and that was a huge arc welder at work. also I have NO training on a Mig, but I love it.

Sweet I'll try that. I thought turning it down, would help. I'm still new to welding.

i used to have the same welder from harbor freight. you've actually been able to do a lot more with it than i ever could. i thought the thing was a giant POS. so i sold it on c-list a while back.

i got it to try and do some exhaust work and like what's happening to you, i'd burn right through it everytime. if i turned it up, it seemed like it would just bounce off instead of burn in.

Someone should jump on this

Try doing a stitch weld on the half door, Dustin. You do a bunch of little tack welds in a row, half overlapping each one. Do the tack, wait 'til you can either just not see the orange glow, or it is very faint (through your welding helmet), and do another tack that half overlaps the previous tack. Sheetmetal is finicky, I've found this, while pretty slow, you never burn through, and you get away with minimal warpage.

Welding sheet metal is all about practice...

If you go fast enough and push the puddle rather than pull it, you wont burn through. I used to weld gun safes together, 16-12ga sheet metal, beads 3-4 feet long. :icon_thumby:

But, stitch welding works also.

12-16 gauge is a lot thicker than 22 gauge. I'd love to have the luxury of welding on that all day. lol

But BlackBII is right, push rather than pull if you want to go for one long mother bead and don't care about warpage. They're a half door after all.

I developed a stich pattern just from doing it. It worked so I kept doing it. Tedious, but easier than filling in holes.

Going to paint a silver strip to match the body and paint the handle and lock black, but I'll do that at a later date. Its supposed to be 73 degrees tomorrow and I wanna rock my new door.
