Diesel powered, ALL FORD 05 Ranger

I'm not sure I understand the hood scoop design. can you explain the shape and how its supposed to work?

Eventually the part you see int he center will be molded to fit the contour of the hood, trimmed to fit, and glassed over as if it were a mold.

Beautiful Truck

Wow, what a great build! I am the automotive instructor for a community college in Michigan and advisor to our motorsports club. We embarked upon a project similar to yours with a 2004 6.0L powerstroke and a 1996 ranger splash that are getting to know one another. We will run biodiesel and other alternative fuels in our drag truck. I would love to hear from you if you would share information from time to time. My email is allen.thomas@muskegoncc.edu
Our motorsports club also has an ethanol powered mustang running in the 11's and a 190" wheelbase electric dragster we hope to set the world record with this year. No pics of the ranger yet but I will take some soon. Here is a video of our other cars and our web site. Thanks, Al

Two days till it hits the track!

Allen, as soon as I get a spare minute, I will get with you, and share what I can.

We wound up getting a best of 12.2 at 115 shutting it down at about 1000 feet when the up pipes split. The guys at trusted had been telling me they were going to need to change the pipes out, and ceramic coat the new ones. Now it looks like we will be doing it sooner than later. LOL We had brake issues and pushed through the lights the first several times before we found a bad fitting that was leaking on the master cylinder. We payed with the bias and finally got it lined out when the Back pressure sensor blew out of the up pipes, (my fault, it was a brass fitting,) that 60' was a 2.9, LOL We never left the line with more than 2 pounds of boost both days dues to the brake issues. We hit it with a single 60 shot of nitrous and WOW did it wake it up. SOOOOO on the next run we upped it to a single 80 shot and finally had the brakes lined out. We thought we had a pin hole in the up pipe but it was no biggie so we went out and tried to spool it up, and it just wouldn't. Apparently it had started to split. Richard was driving and launched it with what boost he had....about 1/2 pound, LOL and when it came on boost, hit the nitrous and ran it till it finally blew letting out at 1000', and coasted through the lights at 12.2 at 115. The truck is rock solid going down the track, and I am happy as hell in the progress so far. Videos to follow when i get them!

Its been a while. Vids to come.

I cant wait for it to get the full run and start braking records. I i love the sound of the 6.0 over any other diesel motor. i was thinking with the twins the sound would be different but it still sounds like the SD i love.

Ok, I am no body guy, but I decided to tackle the hood. I bought a 4x10' section of 18 gauge sheet metal and got to town. I like to think of it right now as Frankenhood. The sides on it now are temporary so I could get the right hight. They will be cut out once the new sides are matched up, and it will be supported evenly accross the back. I stitch welded the front and started to grind it down with a flapper wheel when I ran out of time. It will take one more scoop up the middle to clear the piping.

Didn't want to deal with fiberglass on the bottom.
