99 ranger 4cyl. Died while driving. No jerks or sputters just shut off. It turns over and I can hear the fuel pump when the ignition is turned on. Any ideas where to start looking. Could the timing belt have slipped? Thanks for any suggestions.

Start with basics;
spark - do you have any?
fuel - is the carb working?
timing - if the first two are OK then check timing.

I would say timing belt. I had the same thing happen to me.

Thank you Sean, it was the timing belt. Only thing I need is the tool for the belt tensioner. Any way to do that without the tool?
