'97 F350 7.3L Powerstroke died while driving

Does this truck have dual tanks by chance?

I bring this up because I've had the electric tank valve take a shit and not switch over. Also had a bud experience his crapping out in between tanks and causing fuel starvation issues/fuel return goofyness.

Just a thought! Hope you are making progress man!

Put my buddies scan tool on it on Sunday and made some progress in the troubleshooting:

-The injector control pressure is reading 0psi while cranking
-it is reading rpm, so the new cam sensor is working
-while cranking it has white smoke, so that means there is fuel in the system and the injectors work
-all of the injectors pass the buzz test the scan tool does, I can hear all 8, they don't all sound the same so that's a concern for later...

From my reading online I was assuming that the minimum ICP should be a normal cranking oil pressure, but my buddy is saying that this is most likely the HPOP. That's unfortunate as that is a very spendy part... but for the same cost as a new one I think you can get a ported high flow version to gain like 5hp...

Anyway, that's as far as I got before I pulled the head on the Ranger...

Have you checked to make sure oil is making it to your hpop? There is a alen head bolt on top of the hpop resevoir. Crank the motor for 10 seconds or so than pull that bolt out and stick something in there to use as a dip stick. If there is no oil ether your oil pickup broke off In your oil pan or there is a oil drain back check valve in the timing cover that backed out. You can over fill the oil to diagnose if it's the oil pickup. Check this before you buy a hpop. Hpop rarely just stop pumping when they go bad. It should pump at least 500 psi while cranking.

the HPOP reservoir is full to about 1/4" below that plug, I checked that before, I'm going to try to look into it more this weekend

Check to make sure the gear on the front of the hpop is turning. I think it's on a tapered shaft. If the bolt comes loose the gear will slip on shaft

That's exactly what I'm hoping for, I've read stories of that bolt breaking, which would honestly be the best case scenario...

Doesn't look all that hard to get to that front bolt, it's not new enough to have the back pressure sensor.

Turned out to be the high pressure pump I think... I ended up with a spare engine and put it's HPOP on as well as it's IPR two weeks ago but it didn't start and ordered a new Motorcraft IPR, went to put it on but for S&G I tried cranking it again and it started...

I don't know, I'm tempted to get a ported HPOP since I'm running on a completely unknown unit now and have a spare core... got to get a couple $$ projects done first though...

At least it's running!

This is true, unfortunately the tags expired in November and since it wasn't running I wasn't excited about paying the $85... now I'm broke til payday or my taxes come back... :)

On the plus side the money I do have is going toward a manual transfer case for the Explorer! hopefully get that project going soon.

Yeah I know the feeling....did they raise the damn price again?!

I'm broke too...got married and took 2 weeks off (unpaid) for a honeymoon in Hawaii. So now I'm playing catch up. Hopefully I'll get some taxes back too:icon_thumby:

It was like $85 for the tags for that, and $45 for my motorcycle... The Explorer will be around $200 to get plates on it, I have a Washington title in my name which was only $45, but to plate it in Oregon is $200... and I have to drag it to the DMV to do that for a "VIN Check" which is hard without a transmission... :)

I'm going to be getting hitched this summer, so I'll understand how that works then.
