I'm aware as long as you keep your foot out of it you will be issue free, but i had came across something that concerns me a little bit. Upon going through the tech articles on the d28 to d35 swap i had noted you would need to shorten the driveshaft about 1" to 1.5" Normally i wouldn't see this as an issue, but when we swapped the 4.0 we used the m50d. Keep in mind that the m50d is about 3" longer than the fm145 was. We did keep the stock front driveshaft out of the ranger thinking that it would bolt right in. I am now concerned on how it will fit. Could it be 1.5-2" short of where it needs to be, or am I worrying about nothing? Also the bronco has an estimated 3-4" of lift on it. FYI we DO have the d35 from the ranger if needed. It will just need re-geared. as it's 3.27 whereas the bII came with 3.73. Thanks in advance

The reason that you have to watch the d35 swap is because the pinion snout is longer than the d28. Now, being lifted, you would be fine with the d35 swap, so, don't be surprised if the front driveshaft is short now.

I know the snout is shorter on the d28, i'm just worried about the shaft being too short. We're using the d28 as of right now. Will we need to swap the d35 to get this to work properly.

If you swapped to a M5OD from a FM145, the front driveshaft for your D28/1350 t-case combo indeed will be too short. If you have the 1354 case and driveshaft from the Ranger donor, they should swap right in and should have just enough spline engagement with the D28 axle still under there.

Agreed, might as well regear that D35 and swap it in too. It's a much sturdier axle than the D28 (3.73 thirds are pretty common in junkyards if that's the ratio you need, they were used under Explorers as well as Rangers).

we have the auto t-case which i think is the 1354? :icon_confused: we DID keep the driveshaft from the ranger as well. I mocked it up today and it's about 1.5 inches short. So the bronc is not moving for awhile.

Auto as in from an automatic trans or an electric t-case?

1350 is what the BII should have had originally, they have a slip yoke for the front output. The 1354 has a fixed yoke (similar to what is coming out of the D28 front axle)

If it is too short find one that is right or too long, they are cheap to have shortened. I didn't ask when I had mine done, it was $50 to shorten my front driveshaft and $180 to retube the rear. :black_eye:

The way I read this, it sounds like you just need to get the D35 in for the length to be right.

It's an m50d with the auto shifting t-case.
where'd you go to get your shafts adjusted?

I did forget to extend the driveshaft, as it has a slip yoke as well... :black_eye:
The front fits. We're gonna run the d28 til it blows up then rebuild the d35 and swap in.
