Dear Ford, Why!?!

I agree with Dirtman. Coffee in right hand, cigarette in left while changing gears and manual steering. I don't know what USB is for by my truck starts and runs just fine without it. A dang lighter would come in handy though!

That has got to be the basest model of Ranger ever made if it doesn't have a lighter. Even my lawn mower has a lighter.

Yes. I think most people do, don't they? Regardless, it's not just the taking your eyes off the road, it's taking your hand off the steering wheel and holding something. Here, I can not even HOLD my phone while I'm driving. Strangely enough, though, the law doesn't (YET) say I can't hold a drink, or a snack. But the question is, SHOULD I?

I have been driving for 17 years, and I have never regularly driven with both hands on the wheel.

The right one is almost always busy with something that isn't steering.

I never have to take my eyes off the road with Contigo Autoseal bottles. I carry ice tea with me wherever I go. I love these things. Autoseal with the pushbutton works well, it's easy to clean inside the cap, and it can be thrown in to the floorboard at high speed or hard braking without leaking a drop. I've never used the little flapper lid. It stays folded back permanently.

I love those bottles.

So how do you spit into that thing? :icon_confused:

Or what if you need more than some tea to get through your day?

We are not all so hopelessly addicted to clam chowder that we have to eat it while driving.

Its chowdah!

The right hand is for shifting, eating, drinking, adjusting radio and A/C, petting the dog, etc. And occasionally steering. The left hand does most of the steering, rolling down the window, turn signals and sometimes holding food or drink while shifting.

... And dang it. Now I have to go see if my new mower has a lighter. I don't think it does. ?

Dang, my fleet ordered Custom (basically an XL) has a lighter...

Don't forget about cruising with your right hand on the wheel and the left arm out the window. You got to be ready for a middle finger at all times of the day lol. I personally find driving with two hands awkward. I think the driving while holding a cell phone is illegal because it takes your MIND off the road. That's why it's called distracted driving. When you are not focused on the road your reaction times get delayed and that's when accidents happen. They could care less about what one hand does so long as it does not distract you like a cell phone. Most people can drink with one hand on the wheel, eyes on the road, and other hand on drink. It's not rocket science. That's why there isn't a law saying you can't eat/drink and drive. Til the day when someone kills someone in a car accident because they were staring at their big juicy burger...… Mmmmm big juicy burgers covered in all the fixins…… BAM! CRASH! BANG! BOOM! "accident caused by guy drooling over sandwich and could not take eyes off the sweet juiciness" is what the headlines will say lol. HAHA

when i was younger, i knew this kid. His dad had no left arm. he drove a 5 spd Ranger and could roll a cigarette while driving with his knee, they dont make'em like they used to. When that man passed, i knew it was the end of an era.

But no matter what, under no circumstances is the left hand ever for switching between low and high beams.

I doubt it. My mower was built in the era that doctors recommended pregnant women smoke for their health.

I can cruise with my left arm on the wheel and hanging out the window.

Don't get me started on that high beams stuff. The other day, when I was out in the forest service roads in the rain, there were several vehicles that passed me in the other direction , obviously with high beams on. This was in the daytime, during a rainstorm. Those headlights weren't helping them see a longer distance. It was just to help others see them coming. I only saw them momentarily until I went blind from the high beams. Should have run them off into the trees. Gee. Sorry. I was blinded by your (insert numerous foul words here) high beams!

I use my left foot to switch them.

83-85 Ranger consoles which are really rare didn't even have a cupholder according to the parts diagram. Lots of coin and cassette tape storage though.

I hated buckets but if I happen across one of those in my travels I might have to ditch the bench seat. I have only seen a handful of pictures and have yet to see one in real life.

I saw one of those full length consoles for a 1st gen regular cab years ago. It was in a mini junk yard out behind a little repair shop in Wellsboro. I went there with @RangerKip to pick up some parts or something, and he took me around back and showed it to me because he'd never seen one before.
