i replaced the stock speakers with new 4" speakers, made new mounting brackets with some tin sheeting, but the grills won't go back on without running into the surround.

any idea of anywhere that sells custom ones, or a way to get my old ones back on?

im not following you on this.

are the stock covers that are on the dash hitting the speaker?

your gonna have to lower your speakers.

got any pics?

they were SUUUUCH a pain to get in/out...

i had to lower my drivers side one already... used a heat gun with a spoon on the air/heat vent. didn't want to collapse it too much so that i would lose air flow.

if i recall correctly, my passenger side one doesn't need much moving, if any at all.

but i remember my drivers side being kinda far off.

if the tin sheet metal wasn't so ugly, i wouldn't mind keeping it exposed. but i'm just tired of the "unfinished" look... (even though people love seeing the speakers excursion lol.)

what kinda of speakers you running?

i was getting rid of some 4'' blaupunkts that fit in the ranger dash perfect. they sound really good too.

maybe we could work something out.

wal-mart has some decent 4" speakers can't remeber what they are called but they work great for everyday use.

You could always cut holes in the peaker grille an plop your speakers in them so that it sits ontop of the grill when its in, I was going to do that but I ended up getto fabbing mouning brakets off of an old speaker frame... looked ugle sounded good. then the speakers died cause they got covered in mud alot... Mine were Blaupunkt too.

I am decently happy with them. However I have to choose loudness or bass response. Sometimes I can get a happy medium, but usually i just go for the loudness part and less bass. it won't be a problem (hopefully) when i get my sub finally freakin installed and when i get a HU that can omit signals less than say 500hz from the speakers or something.

I feel like that would look tacky, but idk?

yeah the speakers i have, have a pretty decent bump to em before they distort.

thats the whole reason i bought them, i wasnt choosing loudness over bump.

gotta have da bump, numsayin?

I think the Sony X-Plod 4 inch speakers are a flush mount and work in that space. Haven't tried 'em personally but those are the ones I will eventually try. Saw them once at Wal-Mart and haven't seen them again.

ill be honest, those speakers aint nothing special, heres the specs to mine

yeah i know, they were reccomended to me from rjppunk or whatever his username is (no disrespect, i just don't remember the exact name)... i was skeptical because they were so cheap, but he assured me i would be happy. i'm happy, but i've always wondered what a 4" from focal or something would sound like..

my dream would be for people to hear my truck from like 100 ft away or so with it turned up... not necessarily the bass aspect, just the mids and mostly highs probably (just cuz those seem to travel further and are more audible)

right now, if it's turned up, i can have all my windows up and doors shut and i can hear it, and with my drivers side door open i can hear it pretty damn well if you ask me, but again... i still wonder what it would be like with higher end speakers that can handle more watts... but what good is it to get a, for an example, 60w rms 4" speaker, if i'm not amping them? i don't have space for an amp right now, i'm having a hard enough time w/ my sub install with the amp, so yeah.

It looked decent on my friends 85. but it looks hella better when you have the black mesh speaker grilles to match the dash

i can see it looking good, i just wish the dash had a bit more space.

a 4'' speaker is, well, a 4'' speaker.

they will never reproduce lows like a 6 1/2. there meant to fill in the sound, or fit in tight spaces.

the thing i liked about those blaupunkts i linked is on a good pioneer headunit, i had the bass on max and they didnt distort untill the volume was pretty high.

they have a nice crisp thump to them.

i was impressed with them in my ranger.
