Like I mentioned before I had a mild wobble on my rear passenge tire which I thought was a bent axle shaft but after replacing it and it not going away I realized very quickly that that was not it. I then thought maybe the drum, replaced the drum and now the wobble has magically split between both tires. Good news is the wobble split into both wheels which is barely noticeable now but does anyone have any explanation for this? The only thing that I can think is that there is a strange warp in the axle that may be causing this strang behaviour.
When I get some more time I'm going to try putting the tires on without the drums and see what happens next then after that rotate tires but from my previous tests there was something really strange going on. So yeah the wobble is now a little bit on both rear tires

I dont try to solve those kind of things. I just replace it all. My wheels rims are bent enough that they wobble bad going down the road but theres enough lead weights to not have vibration.

dont think a warp axle would cause a wobble, it would just hold the wheels in a angle and cause bad wearing. could be bent rims, or the lug bolts could be bent.

Actually it would. the bend in the axle would be rotating with the axle. so the wheel would camber positive then negative, as well as toeing positive then negative as the axleshaft rotates. Hmmm I just realised waht you said, the axle wont wobble if bent, btu the axle shaft will. So I stand corrected, yet still correct. Unless the axle housing was bent front to back instead of up to down.

I bent my axleshafts in my accidentwith my mustang paid 300 bucks for axles from superior. I found that I had bent my driveshaft and that was my vibration, however not a wobble. Im thinkin also maybe a bad bushing in one or both of the two arms that go from the pumpkin to the frame? Bad tires/busted belts?

I'd try throwing a different set of tires on the rear and see what it does. If it doesn't change check your rims to see if they're bent and maybe take it to a shop for one of those free inspection things like Belle tire (or just get an allignment and see what they say). And then if it's still there, replace the darned Amityville-axle.

Maybe a tire has internal damage. Sometimes they will balance at either high or low speed, but not all. I think it's called a kinesiodensity problem. Part of my plies were loose, and shifted with speed. Swapping the front and rears help pin down the problem. It either drove weird or the butt end wobbled.

Put the rear up on stands. Pull the wheels and drums. Put a dial indicator on the axle shaft and rotate it BY HAND. Do each side. That will settle the axle shaft question. Since the problem changed drum or moved the wheels around it don't seem it will be the shaft.

Exactly!

You can't just throw shit at it and expect it to fix itself. You need to test and eliminate each item.

I don't think it'd be a wheel bearing......it'd affect the shafts run-out most likey and i'd think there'd be some sort of audible noise.....

If I were to diagnose this case I'd have to ask a few questions:

Is the truck used offraod?

Has it had alot of weight in the bed?

Have you done any recent work? U-joints, just had tires put on? etc.

That could narrow down alot right there.

I also agree with people on the internal damage on the tire. I put a set of almost new cooper at's on my old 93'. They were off an F-150. I had them put on my rims and balanced. All of a sudden my truck developed a bad wobble anywhere from 55mph and above. Took them to a different shop and one of the tires had a broken belt. And there was no evidence of this from just looking at the tire.

In all reality I'd have a few question about the tires on your truck:

Are they new?

How long have they been on there?

Are they used tires, that have been remounted on your rims? Were the rims original to your truck???

Used tires mounted on different rims need to be mounted with the same side facing out and in the same direction they were facing before......if not.....could lead to internal tire damage.....
