Dans 94, RCSB, 4.0, 4x4, 5spd

Stump test completed, it’s amazing how easy this thing will climb something like this. I tried it in my 2011 Tacoma with a mild lift and same size tires but it would not do it. Just spun two tires since it has no locker or posi. I figured its wheelbase would have helped.

i had a high travel trail biased ttb for many years.....it could bind and overlay the coils climbing and was axleshaft limited on droop. i ran an inverted link biased to the passenger side so my toe and camber stayed true as possible and it worked really well. they key was mushy springs and air bags....

Whoaa whoa whoa back up and use 3rd grade words and or more pictures.

Mostly the “inverted link biased to the passenger side” bit. Also the air bags, those were up front? In the springs?

yup. i run a 140 ppi spring....jeep chero-car 4.5 or 5 in....with canted lower seats.

e150 long side for the drivers side steering link.

and flipped ranger passenger side.(inverted)

this is less then ideal for certain situations on the road depending on tire size and wheel offset.

but through out travel, keeps the tire flat and aimed true really well, and this is to maximize traction.....much better then a k link if you have actual usable low speed travel like i did....

traction was increased to the point of ripping links in half happened more often. now mind you i had over 300 hp under the hood and was not afraid of wheel speed....so...i am a bit more tame these days...

but tearing shit up was regular.. especially with the lunchbox up front,

i went to custom brake bias instead of the locker and broke way less shit...and it works good enough.

Impressive! I have been researching some options for steering upgrades, but as of now the steering rods mimic the axle angles pretty well, and steering feels good. Of course there’s not much technical crawling down here in Florida. I mostly want to throw the lockrite in the front for mud, not that it’s a mud truck because it’s def not, but it’s fun to play around once in awhile and all the mud holes seem to be 100yards from the nearest tree strong enough to winch too.

Also I truly built this truck more for going quick down forest roads and being fun everywhere.

yeah...my truck has spent a fair amount of time in florida... I work down there at times... so i know what you mean on those roads...spent quite a bit of time in the glades. friggen lime dust corral hell...

one year i took the TRS banner all the way down the keys to the SMP and hung it on the Conch Man....it was during a blood moon and a hurricane was blowing in so it was some epic adventure fun...

That’s epic! Man I only have one vehicle in my fleet at this time I’d trust to drive down to the keys, and it surely ain’t the ford!

Ive always been fascinated with the prerunner desert truck stuff from out west. So this is my Florida version of that more or less.

Good to know a D35 with some flex can survive 300hp because I never plan to put a lot of power in this thing.

yeah..... 4x4 junkie has some real good trail setup experience...he built a narrow ttb d44 setup short bed and has a bomb ass B2.

real simple and real effective. if i remember right this is a paint files from him....i may have that wrong.

it is a great baseline if you want to play around at some point and have the time to experiment....

.but if it is working....just let er work... seems like your rig is just fine for what you are doing.

i run that way just like you are for a long time....and the toe in can impede control on climbs....which are few and far down that way....but if you manage to get out on some climbs just be aware it hucks up and is more squirrely with the short wheel base then my long ass truck.... you obviously have the skill to make the most of it... but knowing these little quirks is nice....these pics are probably up to 20 or more years old btw.....

back then because of the stiff spring rate required for a ttb typical suspension.... i used the chassis more for travel then the suspension......and while it worked...its hard on the frame....

and these days my rig has evolved to a totally different state....but i do know what you mean about mud and florida.....

44 inch ground hawgs aint shit in florida....and your truck aint going anywhere unless its two feet higher then those....

so your in good company here.

your rig seems well constructed to your needs....and i dig it.

you never know when i will be around....

but i am looking forward to the next improvements....

You’re making me want a first gen excab!

Did you ever have to do any frame repairs?

Yeah Florida mud is silly, 56” Vtreads ain’t nothing in some places. And that just isn’t the life for me lol.

As far as getting squirrely, having no sway bars is sketch at times. After I get these bumps installed and dialed a custom front sway bar might be the next thing I play around with.

Well I thought my third brake light was the cause of my cab leak, but maybe I was wrong. It’s a very strange leak, I see no evidence of any water anywhere except in the cup holders. It’s as if they fill up on their own, everytime it rains really hard. If it rains hard and I’m driving I never see any water.

In other news my test tire has arrived and man I think Kenda really knocked it out of the park on their sidewall design. It looks fantastic and I cannot wait to get it mounted to one of the new wheels today for a quick test fit.

that tire is awesome looking.....

frame repairs? of course....i have tough trucked it and raced it in its first 10 years i owned it (and yes it was my only car some of those times)....... though the first frame repairs were due to my lack of give a fawk to make room for v8 swaps....

I have always wanted to pull the cab and bed and box the frame on one of these trucks. However, I did it on a Tacoma years ago, it was a huge headache, not sure it’s worth it unless the frame was bare for some other purpose.

I’m hoping these tires are a tad less loud on the highway, and look even cooler than the current MTs.

on this end of Interstate 75.... you have to strip it to the rails and clean it up and paint it periodically or it will turn to dust...

i keep the trucks dumb to aid in that process.

Very good point, man I hate rust! It’s the reason I just parted out my “race truck”. Pulled the bed and it was worse than I felt like dealing with. Was a PA truck before I bought it.
