dangerranger1983 build

i still think crossover would prolly help yer situation a little bit.

I havent bought the TRE's yet. I would hate to buy them and they not fit in the sleeves though. But one TRE that will be used that is stronger is the one that will hook into the pitman are and to the drag link is a Ranger TRE, think the passenger side one has the corret thread dirrection.

Just got the track bar installed, only took 30min. Its from an 85 jeep cheeroke, smae year as my axle and dont know what years are all the same, but its a stock one. The TRE on the end may limit flex so going with one that has 2 eye hole ends would be a better choice if alot of flex is in mind. That one costed me $60 but has a limited life time warrenty on it.

I can say after installing it and taking it for a drive, steering is so much better, cant wait to get the rest done on it. Wonder if I can use ranger TRE's on the rest of the steering linkages or if the thread tapered ends are to big to fit.

Not going to go with heims, I have seen that they wear out real fast and this truck does see alot of street time, may just keep it all stock Jeep steering stuff, I see people beating on theres setups and have very little problems.

if you check out that link i posted its from MSJ where they did the zj swap. you need the tre's for both sides and the adj sleeve.. its a lot stronger. good upgrade.

crossover steering would probably be the best way to go, but will require more work/money

Ya I did check out the link, was just wondering on the year to get the parts for though.

Cross over steering is the way to go but I just dont have the funds or time right now to do it plus dont want to be changing heims every second, plus dont know if the use of them is legal for street use.

Well found a puddle to splash my truck in real fast, just had to get pics...

After this when to go get my gf and on the way back to her bro house, had 3 death wobbles but happened all on roads that are in just horrible shape, one of the roads is being ground to the dirt and rebuilt. All it takes is a nice hard bump for it to start now. Getting the rest of the parts to ge this fixed ASAP. Its not a typical wobble, its like an earthquake wobble. Have a cowork whos dad has a jeep that does the samething and they cant figure out why it does it still after going over everything under it.

As much as I wanna tell u to pick one color for the truck I kinda like it the way it is. Seems more tough and if you do ever go full width it'd be perfect

I may go full width one day when I get another truck to replace her as a DD, but want a reason to replace my D30 first. The body will be the color of the cab and the hood will be the same orange color.

Had somemore fun while I was near the spot, heres some poser shots. Some of the paths were blocked off buy huge logs for some reason so couldnt go through the huge mud hole that was there. I wasnt going through soupy mud, was going through thick stuff, as the tires show.

Does anybody know which wheel is the dominate one on an open D30 aka the one that would spin if it could do a one wheel peel? Want to put an aussie in her someday.

depend's on alot of factor's. tire pressure, traction available any slight turning alignment. if everything were perfect as far as exact same side to side. i would think driver's side due to short axle, less torque loss. but i dont think it's something to be concerned with as it is very unlikely that both tire's will be at the same exact pressure with the same exact amount of traction. same surface temp and what not.

I would prolly look at a winch before an aussie. but that's just me. no matter how big and bad you build it it's inevidably gonna get stuck sometime. and if you dont take it place's to get it stuck you can use it to recover all your buddie's until you get the itch to go farther than the truck is capable.

i agree. i'd get a winch first. i'm gonna keep my d30 open for awhile after the swap... for money reasons.

SB winches are only $300ish

I want to keep my brush guard on the front, but dont mind cutting it up a little to put a winch on it but first i need to re-enforce my bumper a bit more to the frame so that the two bolts holding it on dont give to all thw weight on it, may end up welding it to the frame, have no plans on getting rid of it. What would the min winch size would i need to be able to pull my truck out of a sticky situation, dont want to go over board, remember this is still a budget build, basiclly enough to do the job and then a bit more. Looks embrassing when you have to pull the winch out while wheeling, would like to be able to keep going no matter what, that is at least for what i have built the truck for.

Plan on ordering the rest of the TREs today and getting her fixed, death wobble is worse and more frequent then ever and as much as i drive the truck, it kinda scares me to drive her, even the two miles to work. Any and all help is more then welcome.

well first thing's first get the death wobble figured out. as far as pullin winch cable out, i have nNEVER thought at all poorly bout somone pullin a winch cable out EVER! i chuckle and point at the guy stuck that has no mean's of recovery. if i knew then what I know now a winch woulda been the first thing i ever bought for my truck. but up until the winch i allway's relied on the good ol 10 ton comalong. and I still carry it incase of backward's or sideway's pull's just take's some sweat and time. oh and it's good to rob part's from when your buddy snap's his winch cable. As far as winch go's i'm runnin the smittybuilt 8000 pounder, it has gotten me outta every situation i have ever put my truck into. i have had to re rig and run a snatch block a time or two but oh well. if i had to do it all over again i woulda spent the extra 100 on the 10,000. cuz runnin a snatch block is fine and dandy unless your 98 feet from the closest tree (happened this weekend.) however i dont think you will ever have an issue runnin the 8,000. remember just cuz you have a winch dosent mean you will still get everywhere. still need a shovel, jack, saw and all the other fixin's when you get stuck on the edge of a field it really suck's but if you have the mean's to dig a deep hole and burry your spare tire it make's thing's alot easier.

Just got back from autozone and with the reward thing, my total for the two TRE's were $16.36 so that saved me alot. Bad thing is they will arrive there tomorrow at 11 int the morning so have to go there and get them and get her fixed ASAP. I have the ranger TRE for the pitman arm, just need to find my pickle fork in the garage.

Oh theres a ton I still need to learn about wheeling and all what I need, nobody in my family has ever done it so Im the first.

Love how people just ride my ass when driving, they learn real fast not to when something happens to the person in front of them (me) has to stop all the sudden, and they are having to swerve off the road to avoid rear ending me while we are doing 20mph.

learning what to bring is a long process. kinda different for each vehicle. my theory is set your truck up with way too much stuff and take thing's out little by little. i care as many tool's as I have room for. as far as spare part's i cary the typical part's that wouldnt be a bear to change on the trail i.e. Joint's (axle and u) for me now i carry spare hub part's. peterson's alway's write's what they think is a good start for tail gear. just make sure you have some saftey stuff. emergency first aid kit. fire extinguisher, and recovery gear.

OH and dont forget to bring a spare tire. ive made that mistake a couple of time's and needed one. still havent learned as I went out last weekend without one and luckly didnt need one.

Lets hope the rain holds out so that I can fix my truck and hope the parts ordered are the right ones. The description and where they go were not good ones at autozone yet most of the parts I get have a good description.
