dangerranger1983 build

why not just use what is on Explorer axle??? that is if he can get a Explorer axle with all the hard and soft lines still on it.

You could but then you would have to move the lines on the truck around so the Explorer rubber line will reach the hardlines in the truck. The Rangers roughly is in the center of the bed, the Explorer comes off the driver's side frame rail (or close to it)

I also think for offroading on top the diff is a safer place for the rubber line.

The lines on my axle were original to the car and pretty groady, so I chucked them and made the new ones fit the Ranger setup. The rubber lines to the calipers are not that expensive and the steel line is pretty cheap too... IMO it is the easiest way to do it.

I can make my soft line work, running the stock one whose frame bracket i moved down plus my frame hard line is longer then normal so it can be moved down too. I can get the axle with the lines, hopefully they dont want to charge for the brakes that come with it but most likely they will.

grahhhh gotsta have tons.... graahhhhhh

thats all i'm out

but yea in all seriousness if yer gonna do it might as well get it in and done once. explorer with new lines. mightas well get new pads and if they do it around there turn the rotors. I'm in the middle of swappin disc's on the rear of the explorttrac right now. all ive got is for tips is grind the perches off the 8.8 if you need some shock tabs can either grind them off your 7.5 or an easy way to make some with common tools is take about a 1-1/2 or 2" holesaw and cuts some rounds out of 1/4 plate then cut grind/ file them to the shape of your liking drill some holes for shock bolts and whala quicky shock tabs. I'm running some drilled from 5/16" but was running 1/4 with no issues just decidecided to relocate last summer and had the plate available.

Pricing everything out everything at my pic a part that would more or less have what I need, Im looking at $167. Now if they include the calipers and rotors in the equasion, it will be an extra $45 or put at about $200. But there thing says the assembly is $119 plus $20 core.

I do plan on seeing is I can reuse the spring perches, that will save me some money, $24 at least. As for the shock mounts, may make some out of tabs, I can get some metal for them.

This axle will literally be a ready to bolt in thing when I do go to do it.

I cut the shock tabs off my 7.5 and used them.
I did spin the up a little so they didn't hang down so much though

I would like to reuse my shock mounts, might consider it since i want to finalize their position when the axle is bolted in the truck, they hang a bit low and the shocks just miss the axle tube.

If you shop around you can find them complete pretty cheap. Disk to disk w/ springs mine was $100 and I had to pull it in the guys garage.

The rotors were pretty worn, I went new. The calipers were ok but in the years it took me from taking apart to going back together they peed enough brake fluid out and locked up. The pads were never an issue because I was going to replace them anyway. The parking brake shoes were shot. I guess it pretty much has all new brake stuff on the rear axle. I also put new axle seals, pinion seal in the axle along with new clutch packs in the limited slip.

I wanted it drop in ready is why I didn't reuse stuff off the 7.5. It was pretty much slide the 7.5 out and slide the 8.8 in.

This summer I am changing the master cylinder and the two lines it feeds and am going to get the parking brakes (mainly auxillery brakes to me) to work. I should probably also change the drivers side front softline... last year the passenger side died and burned out a set of pads and the rotor.

I haven't looked on craigslist yet, still in the todo list.

I don't have plans on hooking the parking brake up, haven't had one on my truck since my dad got it 13 years ago.

I haven't used it either, I do like the thought of having something if I need it though (like if a brake line blows)

What about using a axle flip kit so you didn't have to cut and re-weld the perches???

Thought about using an axle flip kit but have to see if there are any for going axle over for the exploder axle. I do like the thought of having to weld it together though since I'm running lift blocks. But do the kits also incorporate the thought of the shock mounts being relocated?

Looked on craigslist for axles, explores being parted out but no axles and any explores being parted out are enough distance away from that the cost in gas would equal going to my pic a part and getting one since my buddy wants to go anyways and i would be a ride along.

My child will be 37 weeks, or considered full term, April first and my buddy wants to go to the pull apart in April so it's gong to be one of those what comes first things. My child is due on the 21st. I'm cutting stuff very close right now.

In light of that I would get on Rockauto or wherever I could find the cheapest and get a drum, shoe and/or spring kit. Just keep the prized breadwinning steed on the road and put the extra $$ towards something even funner and that you will really need... like diapers. That's my $.02 anyway.

Too bad you are not closer, I just threw the ones off my 7.5 in the iron pile and I have half a spring kit that I will never use.

It sucks, been looking for a M5OD for my truck, I get a PM from Twister he found two of them at u-pull it the SAME stinkin day my water heater died. :bawling:

Trust me I have all this planned out, the truck won't be going down for any mods until it is time to bolt them in.
