Found the reason for my back firing. Since my truck can idle now i figured i would let it run in the dark tonight and saw that one of my plug wires is shorting to my header causing the back firing. So guess I'm after some new wires but need ones with 90 degree boots. And also so far, looks like my mileage has got better but don't like the electric choke, doesn't open up all the way even after driving awhile, it is wired up correctly but will get the volt meter and be double sure power is still getting to it.

Atleast it is something simple. That's better than replacing have of the stuff on the truck to only find out it is something that is less than $20

Sent from, wait how did this get here?

The wires will cost a bit plus going to either wrap the headers or get slip over wire protectors

Id do both really for different reasons but for now do wire boots

I'll get pics of the wires, almost all of them have gotten burned by the headers. Not out much on them though, only costed me $8 on Ebay.

you can get a cheap kit and turn that carb in to a manual choke, or just readjust the black thing on the side to get it to open all the way up.

I may have to adjust the choke thing, forgot about those being adjustable.

Here's the wire that was arcing to the valve cover due to it making contact to the header, got it out of the way of things. Valve cover now had an arc marking on it.

Adjusting the choke is easy on those. Just make sure you get the truck up to operating temp before you adjust it.
And I don't think your making a fair comparison between Holley and edelbrock. You can't compare a 20 year old worn out carb to a brand new one. Either will work great when they are in good working order. I dyno and test drive over 200 hot rods and race cars every year and I will take a Holley every time. Just my 2 cents though.

The Holley needed work put into it then i had time or patients for. It can still be a great carb in the hands of the right person.

If you have any carb questions your struggling with or engine questions at that feel free to pm me. It's what I do every day so I could probably help you out

Will do, may have a few when it warms up out, looking for the best mileage i can get but still feel like i have 200hp under the hood, shooting for 15mpg

LOL on the wiring....

that's what I did too...I wanted to hear the engine run....

purdy wires come later!

:yahoo:

Also that is the first time it has idled on its own in about a month. Makes driving the truck so much easier and safer.

I do need to get a air cleaner housing spacer asap or find a closed housing for this carb for cheap.

If I didnt say it already I did have to mod my throttle cable bracket by slotting the holes for the hold down bolts that go in the intake so that I could move it forward a bit.

And also more pics of other stuff I got off a TRS memeber here but havent opened the package yet but I know what is in there so I will get pics of it tomorrow. But wont be installing it until I get a new trackbar, getting rid of the stock jeep one that has the TRE on it in favor for one that has bolts on both ends...that may be another month before I get it.
