I still have to find my vacuum gauge. Thing is it idles fine but when it comes to driving or consuming fuel outside of that that involves outing it under a load for a bit, thats when it falls on its face. Earlier I had it running perfectly, dropped the fuel pressure down to 3psi and then it just died. Had to let the fuel pump run forever and pump the hell out of it to get it going again.

One thing I dont get when adjusting the carb is how to do the damn floats. I have read and saw videos but still didn't get it.

Rowdy, are you running a holley carb? And if so, what size jets and whatnot you running, if you know and also what is your fuel pressure?

Yeah I'm running the 570 Holley street avenger carb. Idk what size the jets are.

That's strange most Carbs run with the fuel pressure at 5 to 7 pounds, my friend just got a new 383 with a demon carb, and it had a paper with to not to exceed 9 pounds, or it would over fill the float bowls by pushing past the closed seats.

you might want to check and see that your floats are shutting off the fuel in to the bowls when full.

Thats what I'm thinking, they aren't closing and going out an over flow.

Been thinking, maybe I need a vacuum regulator. I'll try to get a vacuum guage tomorrow and go from there.

Also when I get on it, it didn't feel like its giving what it is able to, but it didn't cough choke and sputter either.

You might ought to try and find another carb and try it. if you know anyone that can loan you one, that would let you see if it is just the carb, or something else on the engine.

put a 2bbl on that nutless turd.....or a 450/500 cfm 4 bbl.

To adjust the float you need a flat head screw driver and a 5/8 wrench. Start the truck, warm it up then turn it off. Pull the fat brass screw out of the passenger side of the bowl. If fuel comes out then the float is too high. Put the screw back in. Now go to the top of the bowl to the nut with the screw in the middle. Loosen the lock screw on top of the fuel bowl just enough to allow you to turn the adjusting nut. Hold the screw in position with the screwdriver. Using the wrench, turn the adjusting nut in the appropriate direction: Clockwise to lower float and counter-clockwise to raise float. Turn the adjusting nut in increments of 1/4 of a rotation. Retighten the lock screw. Restart the vehicle and observe the sight window. Rocking the car slightly from side to side may make it easier to see the float level through the sight

The nut less turds would be the two 2.3s and the 2.8 it had.

As far as adjusting the floats, I just can't picture how it works in my head. It seems like if you lossen the to screw out then the nut the retighten them both, your back at square one...guess I need to do as they say and trust them.

I'll redo the carb settings tomorrow and see what that does, hopefully its just the floats causing problems and a simple amusement will fix it.
