dangerranger1983 build

I have an extra flange you can have if needed. I think it had both bolt patterns.

Keep ahold of it while I do research on it all and see if I can swap.

Oreder a new timken bearing today so should be to me in a couple of days.

V8 update: bought intake and oil pan gaskets. $29.95

Couple more pics of the engine. The FEAD looks like this, and in the pics you can see what belt was used to run everything and it will do the same for my setup. I do like how you can take off the PS pump withough having to pull the pulley off. That being the case, I will try to find a saginaw pump and put that on there and put the correct pulley on her as well, hate how mine makes noise.

I want to get going on this engine so bad but want to collect the parts I need first and have the cold weather gone before I do this. Dont want to degrease an engine in the middle of winter when I have to do all of that outside of the garage.

Not much to update but slowly getting gaskets for the engine still. Im picking up the valve cover gaskets, rubber ones, and the timing cover ones which include the water pump ones.

Next on the todo list is exhaust gaskets, water pump, HV oil pump, HO cam, dizzy, etc...hopefully in that order. Oh ya also get the intake here soon too. Its a 4 barrel as said before but told the carb that is being given is a 2 barrel but no biggy there. I still need to get a manula on the car that this engine came out of so that I know all the specs on it and whatnot.

What I was hoping not to do but will have to is change the oil in my truck soon, didnt want to put anything else into the engine but guess Ill need to do that. I also thing the rear main seal may be leaking but checked my oil and somehow I am slightly over filled so I dont know.

I can't remember on that FEAD, but a lot of times the pulley is in the way of getting the PS bolts out, that might be the case from the way it looks. I would take it apart and take it to a machine shop to have it tanked and new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed. I am also lazy lol cleaning up that stuff isn't much fun.

Nothing a trip to a JY cant fix to see if something will be getting in my way or not. I also plan on putting 1.7 pedistal roller rockers on her too. For the price of the new ones I found, Im up for it.

Not going that far on cleaning/rebuilding her, just the outside and if something on the inside needs attention then Ill do it. Plans are to have and engine stand that it can sit and run on to test everything before putting it in the truck and if something does show that its a problem then I can address it before it goes in the truck.

My questions thread has more insite of my plans on what I plan to do.

Bought the engine a goodie, more details on it (and pics) when it arrives.

If you want/need any pics of that FEAD let me know, I have it installed in my Ranger at the moment.

I don't think it matters much if you can get to the bolts or not, the steering box sits right under that pump (I had to put a 90 degree elbow in the return hose on the bottom of the tank because it kinked against the box)

Going through my pics the mounting bolts go into the pump body... gotta pull the pulley. Mine was a howler so I took a chance on the one that came with the engine and it works like a new one.

Well guess I have a few options then. Thake my chances with a JY setup that has everything attached, use my current one and get a pulley for my belt setup (whines with my currently), or go all out and get a saginaw pump and use a pulley for my belt setup on it.

I do like the picture of the oil filter spot. Got pictures of the power steering line setup that you had to do?

I have also noticed that everything can run off one belt and if I do put an AC unit on it for OBA then it will run off the rear groove on the crankshaft pulley.

That pic was actually intended to show the oil filter. :D

I used the stock pressure line, the return line elbow was a post swap retrofit done mostly by feel because the steering assist wasn't always assisting and I couldn't really see what I was doing and do it at the same time.

I pretty much have just enough hose coming off the pump to hold the elbow on and to kick it off to the side.

If the stock pressure line fits then Im happy with that, one less thing to want to get into my way.

Yes, the stock Ranger line fits. There are two types on the return, there is one that points strait back at the bottom of the res and one that points down. I ran the pump that pointed back because I thought I would have clearance issues at first (hearsay), but I found out once it was in place, with the engine where I wanted it, and using the brackets that I used, going that route wasn't necessary. However where that PS bracket sets, that might be something to look into (the pump with the return that goes strait back - '93 Cougar 5.0 non-assisst). Just have to see once you get the engine in place. My pump set up higher.

Alot will be found out when the engine gets its first test fit.

Also I have asked more questions in my and 5.0 question thread too. Im no 5.0 expert hince all the questions but hate to get someting wrong or find out there is an easier way to do something and somebody had the knowledge and could have told me.

I wonder what the UPS man brought in this box....

Took it mistory item to some better lighting, opened it up and would you know whats in it isnt exactly what the box has or from the company but it is my stock Mustang HO cam.

Have to say for used, not bad at all. I finger nail doesnt detaect any deep spots or ridges on where the rollers were. The dizzy gear on it is nice too.
