dangerranger1983 build

just got back from a miles total drive and on the way back it did the DW and it wasnt a bump but more of a smooth depression in the road. Im told a weak sidewall of a tire can also cause this. When this does happen, my steering wheel doesnt move but my wheels do and after furture inspection, i think my knuckles were drilled out from the PO of the axle and ran heims. The top of the hole is to wide fot the TRE to fit as it should and may be causing the problem. So my next question is, how hard is it to change knuckles, is it as easy as just taking the 2 balljoint bolts off and it slides down and put the other on? And also, anybody got close up picks of how well the TRE should fit, i assume there should be no space at all. My trackbar mount on my frame hasnt changed position, its welded to the frame, but still flexes.

Also, is it better to run a positive or negative castor, my angle is pointing forward now, but not that much and i have lost my steering returning to center to after adjusting it yesturday, and im told thats not good.

Right now im so paraniod to drive my truck unless its dark out and nobody is on the streets, im just worried that somebody is going to rearend me due to they have to always be driving right on my ass and this being my only vehicle, i would be screwed. Only thing i can do right now due to being at my gf's house is play with the tire pressure.

Ill hopefully be posting pics soon, have to go somewhere and it has internet, been typing on my cell phone.

Actually you want the top ball joint to be further back than the bottom to give you the correct caster..

the banjoo bolt from the ford caliper fit right into the jeep caliper so i just used the original rubber house and ran them along the long arms.

Changing knuckles is easy but you might have to change both sets of ball joints. I had to change mine because the part that the brake pads sat was completely worn. When I pulled the knuckles, I found both lower ball joints were gone. Having play in the TRE will cause DW along with loose ball joints... Adjust the top arms by making them shorter to give you positive caster. Should have about 4 to 8 degrees to be safe....
The trac bar bracket at the frame flexing just that little bit will also cause DW.

So in all, everything has to be tight with no play....

i figured the lower ball joint leading was making it so that the wheel would wanna spin, kinda like a shopping cart front wheel but i was looking at everything from the front and now it looks like the bottom is leading but it isnt. Ill try to get that fixed tomorrow. I checked all my ball joints the other day and had no play at all. Non of my steering linkage move but due to the system having weight on it, i cant tell but going over a bump that changes the static weight on stuff and can allow things to move. Safe to say that i didnt thunk of all of this until now. But now. About to go out and play with my tire pressure and drive around to see if it helps so i can get home tomorrow, had to walk to walmart tonight with my girlfriend for safety concerns and its a half mile down thw road from her.

this is what i wanted to hear :yahoo::yahoo:

thanks. i might have more questions to...just wait and see! lol.;

I think that running a stablizer shock will help me out alot, get paid friday so thats the day that i will be getting one.

i got the stock steering stablizer from the ZJ.. figured it was on the steering that i got from the JY so why not? lol

well didnt get home again, step mom was escorting me home saw it happened and called my phone and said nope pull over and get it towed home again, she almost went under my truck with her car when i tokd her to stay back so now im waiting will be about 45 min till the truck gets here but now i know what i need to do thanks to all of you guys, will report back soon.

And glad that i could help you out.

Well on the the way home the tow truck driver told me of a place that knows how to fix death wobbles and recommends them so may give them a call if I cant fix the problem. Think my ball joints are out, the wheels lean sometimes when its parked and sometimes they dont.

And to add salt to my wound...

I want to go crawl in a hole but that wont fix anything.

Welll think its fixed now, yes I can say that. I was testing ym trackbars movement by hand forward and backwards and got nothing but when I had the truck jacked up and even before I took the tires off, took the wheel and tried to move it side to side, it moved alot and turns out that it was the TRE going into the frame mount, it was severly loose so after a really good tightening, no more movement of any kind. Took her out on some roads and got no DW.

Next is to go online and find a steering stablizer, autozone has the generic ones for $33 but I figured, I havent gone to cheap yet why do it now plus may find a better name for a few bucks more, thinking procomp.

Have the tries set at 25psi and all the tread on the front touch the ground but the rears the very outter parts dont but they are at 30psi.

are you still runnin stacked washer's on the tracbar? could be your issue.

i'd check w/ rough country for the stabilizer. you need on for a d30 so.. or somewhere like northridge or 4wps. RC gets my vote.

I think Im going to mod. the jeep track bar mount that I bought off escourt awhile back for my truck, I still want to use the TRE track bar since its still new. Only thing with it is it doesnt hang down low enough but nothing some fabbing cant fix.

In the mean time trying to save money to find a cheap exploder that I can use and fix up so that my truck will just be my play toy, but my truck still has to be road worthy so that it can drive back and forth to where ever it is that I will be offroading at.

You can rough country ones for like $50-60 bucks.

I just ordered a procomp one for a total of $42.90 from summit. After I get it, I have to make the bracket to hold it to the axle. Should be to me on the 18th or 19th.
