dangerranger1983 build

If it breaks off then I'm screwed. The HEI dizzy I'm using has four holders that hold the cap down and one of them is coming in contact with the hose so I'm going to take the hose off and rotate the dizzy just past it and hope that I can time the engine. But first thing is first, figure out the transmission problem and why it isn't wanting to rotate, hopefully its just something simple. I know its not the transfer case, it rotates freely.

Other then that the alternator charges good and the JY power steering pump works good too, was very clean on the inside.

I also will say that 200hp through open headers sounds great.

Are you sure that you released the parking break ???? :)

I don't have working parking brakes on the truck, hell I don't even have drive shafts hooked up yet.

Took the top off and looked like somehow two gears may be trying to enguage when you go into any of the gears so put the trans in netural manually put the top on started the engine. I let the engine warm up a bit then put her into reverse and it worked fine, went to put it in second and made the grinding soundfs that says it wasnt going fully into it so tried first and did the same thing along with all of the other gears. Well at that time the engine died and I relized that I had accidently unplugged my fuel pump so got that plugged back in. Started it up and went to try and shift gears again and the samething is happening before, it wants to stall the engine as if it was trying to double enguage gears somehow.

Guess Ill go do the timing and come back to that in a bit.

What size bolts did you use to bolt up your Tcase? If they're too long they'll hit the furthest to the rear gear.

Is this a new to you trans ??? if so, you might need to look for another, but try the ^^ above post first, also check and make sure you don't have excessive slop in the gear shift on the forks side.

I didnt take the adaptor off the trans and I used the bolts that came with the t-case to bolt the t-case back onto the adaptor. Im wondering if the reason is because theres no rear driveshaft and stuff is wanting to rotate from it going into gear? Im going to check things out again and see whats up. It does want to go into reverse but not sure if it wants to spin again like it did before aka worked. I really dont want to take the shift lever off due to how much of a pain in the ass it is said to be to get it on and off but may have to bite the bullet and do it.

Got the timing in the ball park area, took the dizzy out and got it on the proper tooth now.

Now its a matter of figuring out the trans so that I can move on to getting the exhaust started on...man do i want to rage sometimes but I know Im better then that.

Plus a kid on the way, I have to get this truck done now so that I can quit putting money into the truck (as much that is) and be able to be mobile and save up for another vehicle.

EDIT: Just saw you post. Yes this is a new to me trans. When it wasnt attached to the engine I was able to turn it by hand with the input shaft and get it to go through all the gears with the transfercase attached and not attached.
Yes the thought of making an extend cab ranger has come across my mind too.

Yeah it is a pain to get the top off the thing! Try pulling your shifter out and making sure its in the fork slots right. When I bent my shifter to fit the truck I accidentally put it in the wrong way. Pulled it out, reinstalled it and it worked but the motor wasn't runing at that time so idk about the binding up. It just wouldn't shift through all the gears.

Okay took the top off and this is how the gears are. Looks to be double enguaged in gears and isnt going into netural from what the picture says.

So Im going to manually put it all back in netrual and try again.

Btw what gears is it in?

I'm not sure what gears are engaged maybe some one else can help ya with that?! Look at the shifter forks and where they sit in each gear as if you had shifted it then compare it to where the gears are in the trans. It can't be too difficult but I'm no trans guru lol.

Okay got the trans top back on and for the first time with the engine off, I can shift through all of the gears so I think I got it now. Tomorrow hopefully start on the passeger side exhaust that comes off the passenger side header, already had one for the driverside. I measuered

I measured my driveshaft length that I will need by taking the slip unit and pushing it all the way in the tail shaft then sliding it out 1.5 inches then measuring from the center of the ujoint to the face of the flange and I got 46.5 inches.

I would attempt to shorten it myself but have never doing it before, Im not going to chance it.

Sweet I hope that's what the prob was! Make sure to double check your measurement for the drive shaft! Then write it down so you don't forget. I made that mistake and had to take mine back to be re-lengthened. I felt pretty dumb lol.

I took a picture of my measurement that I need so I'm good there. But yes I will double check to be sure.

Made the exhaust piping from the header for the passenger side. Have to mod the flange bolt holes to be able to bolt it up to the header next.
