i need some info. about a (SAS) i have a 1990 ranger that i want to convert into a solid axle with the dana 30, can someone give me some info has anyone did this before.

Please use the search function. This has been cover quite extensively and I believe there is an article in the tech library which covers this.

Search ya fawking newb. :D

There are many threads and a lot of info on here about the swap you're thinking about.

ok thanks but all i really need to know is if the axle will work when its in 4wheel drive. i dont know if it will because of not having the hubs of the dana 35?????? dose anyone know if it will work???:icon_confused:

Hubs, don't matter. The jeep axle will either be center axle disconnect which is vacuum operated or can be made to be cable operated, OR it will be a live axle which tuns all the time and your transfer case is all that engages or disengages the 4x4.

ok sweet thank you im about ready to do this to my ranger. and needed some info.

ok i have another question did i need to use the jeep xj with the high pinion or the jeep wrangler low pinion rears????????

I thought we were talking front ends? I'd go with the hi pinion d30.

yeah we are but i didnt know because some of my friends said that they would use the yj dana 30 which is the low pinion. have you done this befor

the yj dana 30 is a hp and is considered the strongest housing when you get rid of the vacuum disconnect by using a tj shaft instead of the 2 piece shaft. however the xj axle is less of a hassle and you get the larger u-joints on the later models... i think 96 and up.

If he can find a tow package XJ it will also have the larger joints and no disconnect.

ok well i have a 87 jeep cherokee that was a part out jeep and i took the axle out of it and its the vac. axle so i didnt know if you could use the high pinion or the low pinion. but would it work with the jeep axle that i have.?????
