first time posting but have been reading thru this forum for the past two weeks. so i allready know i am going to get bombarded with how weak the dana 30 is,just so you know i have allredy read that about a thousand times.fifty more times isnt necissary ..

what im looking at is mild offroad MUD all the trucks i run with ar 35'' tires or less
if i were to put a good lift on my ttb 35 (that needs to be rebuilt) im lookin at spendin over 2000 for lift, hubs, wheelbearings and all the other goodies just to be able to fit 33"s with out hackin the body or putting on a body lift which i wont do. if i go solid i am lookin at half that and the axle will still perform, besides being "weak"
i have a dana 30 hp, with cad , and will be deleting the cad i plan to set it up with the long arm set up with coil springs and factory jeep steering,

my question is to anyone who has set there truck up with a dana 30 from a jeep, could you give me any heads up with the BUILD as in screw ups, easy ways, what worked, and what didnt, what springs to run to gain good usable
travel.

this truck is not my daily driver but is still road driven. (have a company vehicle as primary)

I think that is the only situation I was do an SAS to a TTB rig is for the mud. the TTB is like a plow in mud and snow. That being said....... could you sell your 30 and buy an early bronco D44?

Well read around on this site and decide what you want. I'm going to be doing a D30 SAS with coils too. Heres a current thread about using a D30 and what others have asked including me......

http://therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50361

If your going to be bangging your truck around and what not a D44 is the way to go. Me Mines doing to be my DD and maybe see some mudding some trails but nothing major. You can also watch me in my build thread of where I am currently at and what I have done. There is no strait forward way of doing a SAS, everybody's is different it just depends on whay you will be doing with your truck and what you want out of it.

I was beat to a responce!!!!

what is the logic in that.

Slimmer profile = less parasitic drag.

mud and snow roll right over the top of the straight axle. the TTB tries to plow mud and snow. but I would only do it on a dedicated winter beater/ mud truck. I don't go mudding (too hard on equipment) and for the cost of the SAS I could buy a pre-92 Suburban or Blazer for a winter beater

i understand the logic of a solid axle being better in that terrain. what i meant was what is the logic in only doing it for mud/snow.... instead of any situation.

I'm doing mine because I want to, I don't have to do this nor do I have any real reason for doing it other then my D28 needs all new u-joints and I got the most expensive stuff for my SAS for free. So I said what the hell might as well!!!!!!

thanks dangerranger i've allready read thru your posts about the sas , they were very helpful in knowing what parts im gonna need along with petersons website project danger ranger where they did exactly what i am dong and i guess i should have known before i even posted that all i was gonna start was some contreversey. i tried to avoid that with my first post but whatever,

I have to agree with danger ranger i am swaping a dana 30 CUZ I WANT TO.

Like my old man used to say before he left the s#!ty world there's an a$$ hole for every seat! And mine is gonna have a dana 30 front axle

well i started a thread in the "under construction" part of the forum. If anyone wants to check it out your more than welcome to, there are some pics posted of the progress soo far
