If I was to go to a salvage yard and get a set of axles, what is required on the front to swap to a 35? Carrier obviously, are both housings necessary? Just driver side? Axle shafts? Knuckles?

FYI pic is just for reference of donor BII front end. Not a D35. Thanks.

You need everything. The only part from your current axle that you could reuse if you want to is the radius arms. You will also need the steering linkage off the donor, or new parts- D35 linkage is wider.

IIRC you need the whole assembly, both beams. I've personally held both knuckles, and they're different. Pivot brackets and radius arms should cross. D35 driveshaft needs to be ~2" shorter. D35 swaybar end links look longer.

$250 per axle seem high to y’all?

Thanks exactly what I needed to know.

Mine was $75 with a pallet... but your results may vary.

Crawl the yard and try to convert to manual hubs before you check out.

All 2/3 I saw yesterday were manuals.. 1 2 door explorer, one 4 manuals and 1 EB autos. But they want $250/axle..

Maybe buying them a half at a time will confuse them? :dntknw:

$250 could be a decent deal if it comes with good brakes and manual hubs. Pass if it needs a bunch of parts. I am spoiled with complete parts trucks for a couple hundred bucks though.

Also know that you will likely have to shorten your front driveshaft an inch... D35's were only in rigs with 1354 T cases that have a different front output so you can't just use that unless you grab a T case, if electric case should bolt right up and the newer front shafts are nicer with a dual cardan joint at the case...

There is a factory shorter front shaft from I think a TK4. Probably hard to find. I got lucky.

$250 hub to hub with the roll bar would be a good price, especially if it came with 4.10s and reusable calipers. Try to get ones where you can easily turn the bleeder screw using a 1/4" ratchet.
