so i got my axle all back together an tried out the 4wd in my driveway an it was working just how it should an then guess wat!! it schredded this axle just like the last one !! i have no idea wat is wrong with this piece of garbage.

You didn't try a tight turn, did you?

That usually destroys automatic locking hubs, but the carnage can go elsewhere if you have manual hubs.

You can't turn with part time 4WD on pavement (or other good traction). Or you break stuff.

well i have auto-hubs and i turn mine as sharp as i like and it always works??
thanks MAKG, ill try to not turn as much now,

o yea, General: did you get my p.m?

Boggin, it works just fine in the mud. Or anywhere else you really need 4WD. Just never on pavement.

this was in my driveway an its gravel. not really turning sharp no it did this last time i was bout to go wheelin i just creeped forward going straight an thats when it broke last time an its the same break as then

what are you running?
TTB, SAS, or IFS??

yea i knew thats what they had, but where he said he put new one in, i wasnt sure what he put in, thanks

when i put a new one in i meant new axle shaft. im gettin rid of this 28 tomorrow for sure im getting a 35 out of an explorer anybody kno roughly how hard it is to swap? lucky for me my friend has a driveline shop. and how do you kno how much to shorten the front shaft

I find it odd that some people can bust a D28 axle by looking at it wrong yet I haven't and I'm not easy on it.

Must be all the Alberta mud.

it is not extremly difficult i just pulled a d 35 today just time consuming

Its a direct bolt in as far as the brackets go, just grab all the steering aswell. You will need to shorten the front shaft 1"

I know, I have never broken mine ever and I keep the hubs locked in when I am gonna go off road for a little bit even on the paved road doesn't affect it that much if I leave them locked, I'm pretty rough on it too sometimes.
