damn flood!!!

I saw a brief bit of the news where a farmer was building his own 19ft (iirc) wall of packed dirt around his house.

Floods are a particular natural disaster that I fear as far as property damage go, which is a reason I'd not live in south Florida or parts of Louisianna, despite liking the areas.

hope his dirt wall holds up. better be super thick... dirt washes away... specially when currents are flowing by and its a small obstruction in a wide open area.

Man! 19 feet high around a house.....that guy doesn't mess around.....like fordman said--it won't hold---but just for the effort that guy put into it---I hope it holds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been watching for a couple of weeks, wondering if/how the upper diversion dam was going to hold out this time. I was in the Hydro industry and remember back in '73' that the Corps of Engineers almost lost the diversion dam. If they had, then the Mississippi would have changed mini channel over to the Atchafalaya River for good. It's one of them things the news media didn't pick up on but it was in the trade papers. Power of water is amazing.
Good luck down there, sorry you have to get all our white stuff from the Winter.

yea the water came up about a foot since the morganza spillway has been opened

personally i'm not touched by the flood, i have helped a lot of friends in my area around Tunica to Memphis move furniture in and out. even got some friends furniture in my shed right now... can't get to nothing in there lol. but that don't matter. i'm just glad i can help.. i'll try to post out some pics of the lake i live by w/ the water rising..

first few pics is the lake at normal level. watch for the trees by the boat ramp for an indicator of the water level.

then skip a few more days... and the water is to the bait store.. which is probably 50 ft or so from the boat ramp. up the hill.

as you can see, there are deer EVERYWHERE down there. they are pushed out of the woods they usually stay in around the levee..

i spend around an hour driving around the casino's and Tunica and probably saw 300+ deer easily.

also you can see more pics by going to this page on Facebook, there are a lot of pages.. this is the only one i've added tho lol

Man you definitely need to get some vidoe or some pics of the the train splashing throught the water. I don't think I've ever seen flooded RR before in fact I know I havn't they keep ours so high up it would almost be impossible. Nice pics mate.

Hope you all stay high and dry.
"Inspector America" last night on the history channel was in Las Vegas and suggested that we build pipelines from the north central states that flood every spring and pipe it down to the southwest to help with their drought. Said Lake Mead has dropped 110' in that last decade.

Again hope you guys don't get wet.

4.0B2........................great pics.....keep us updated...

I took my wife to the Tunica casino last year....we had a good view of the Mississippi River from our hotel room....pretty sight back then.....

I NEVER thought the casino would be knee deep in water!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll try to get some pics of the Mississippi River about 200 miles down-river from you in south Looz-e-anna before the roads get closed.....

damn 4.0, you need my suppressed .308 for some of those deer

Saturday was my first night home in 12 days............

Been sleeping on couches and slumming around bumming showers and washer and dryers... I went to work that Monday with the clothes on my back and had no idea it was going to be flooded by the time I got off work. Friday before last i took my paycheck and bought me a duffle bag, some clothes, deoderant and toothbrushes to get me by until the 4 feet of water surrounding my town subsided.

I work 36 miles from home..... so i couldn't boat in and out every night and morning or take 4 wheelers cross-country.
