damn flood!!!

Like 85 said - in omaha the missouri river is growing more and more each day the city has had to block off several roads by the river. Our local quiktrip ran out of gas the other day because where they get their gas from is just about flooded so tthey have to drive to another city to get the gas. I took some pics ill post up later.

There was also talk about shutting down a nuclear power plant about 30 minutes from me in fort calhoun which would put tons of people without power.

I thought it was already shut down for refueling?

There were going to blow a dike if they got queazy about the water level at the power plant though, there is still nasty stuff there.

They had some problem a bit ago where two of he cooling tanks malfunctioned, but they got it fixed. The news tonight said that it is open and they dont plan on shutting it down, also that the water level near the power plant has receded a bit.

My mom's little town didn't flood from the spillway/floodway being opend.....seems the drought we've been having in south Loo-z-anna absorde about 3' of the forecasted flood water, which spared the levees around smaller towns.

As for the Mississippi River above new orleans, it crested about 5 feet below the top of the levees and has dropped another 4'.....so right now it's close to it's yearly level at this time of year.

Now, the new problem will be all the "new" water that will be coming down the Mississippi River later in June....that will be interesting!

Years ago the flood stage was so high above new Orleans that the River was only a foot from going over the tops of the levee (had the levees failed, the Mississippi would have gone from 1 mile wide to about 60 miles wide!)....Lake Pontchatrain rose about 12 feet along the floodway when the Mississippi was diverted into it....

Here are some pics of the flooding in Omaha Nebraska. Sorry the quality might not be super high because i took the with my cell :icon_rofl:

There is suppose to be about 10 soccer fields in this pic.

And this is a river side restaurant. The gate is around 20 feet from the top of the water when the river is at normal height :icon_surprised:.
