daily doubler build

Hope it all works out for you man, I wish you and yours the best

Thanks guys. He's stable and they'll be working with him during the coming week. These guys know what they're doing, I'm sure they'll take care of him. Things will be different for a while, but I'm hoping he'll come back to his normal self.

I got a little work done this weekend. Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail - 0psi. Took the fuel line off before the fuel filter, and no gas came out when I was cranking it over. I'm guessing the fuel pump is dead. I've decided to just yank it and I'll trouble shoot it if it doesn't start in my Ranger.

I cut the d-shafts out, as well as the t-case skid. Unplugged the engine electronics.

Still up in the air if I want to pull the trans and t-case with it, or just try and leave the trans/t-case in and just pull the motor. IDK.

Not much, but progress is progress.

Bray, any word on the trans price?? I know you been busy with the family and stuff, just reminding ya, no rush :icon_thumby:

I haven't talked to him yet. I'll shoot him a text tomorrow. I don't see why he wouldn't sell it. that's way more than the scrap price he'd get for it. I'll let ya know.

Made good progress this weekend. Got the rolled Ex stripped. Engine, trans, and t-case are out.

It'll probably take a day to mock in the engine and build motor mounts, massage the TTB crossmember, get my coil buckets re-installed, etc. Then hopefully install for good the next work day and fire some life into it.

I hope to be doing burnouts in the shed by the weekend. :D

edit: Left my camera at the shop again, so no pics for now :thefinger:

I've been fighting a cold since last Friday, and it finally got the best of me today. I was hoping to get a lot of work done, but I ended up laying around the house all day. Next big work day is Thursday, hopefully I'm up to par by then.

I've also been trying to source a 4.0L manual trans ECU. It seems like there's a bunch of different ECU numbers for the same engine/trans combo. Haven't figured out which one I need yet.

The sickness has had me down most of the week, but I managed to make some decent progress. Tomorrow should be a big day, we will see.

The 4.0 out of the exploder

Everything seems pretty straight forward, except for a couple things. Vacuum lines. There's one that runs from the bottom of the throttle body to a deal just below the drivers side headlight.

Its the one with the green clip. This is under/behind the driver's headlight.

Where that white one runs to, in case that helps anyone figure out what its for.

The one with the green clip runs up under the throttle body, and attaches with the black clip.

There was also another vacuum line that ran under the pass. side headlight, but I don't remember where it went on the engine. I'll have to check again tomorrow.

Also, my m5od trans harness plugs into the black plug fine. Won't fit into the gray plug. There's a gray plug on the auto's trans harness. Do I just plug the m5od harness into the black plug and leave the gray one as is?

There's also a line that ran off of the bottom of the PS pump. You can see the fitting where it was on the bottom of the reservoir.

I'm pretty sure it ran to a cooler. Can I just plug that sucker? Don't want to have to find a place to mount the cooler/lines/etc.

Here's the Ruff Stuff 4.0 mounts unwelded

Thankfully I still remember how to weld. Its been a while haha. Like riding a bike.

And the 4.0 in the ranger :D

Just sitting on the TTB crossmember. Gonna build the frame side motor mounts tomorrow.

Any ideas on what to do with the vacuum lines, rear gray plug, and PS pump?

Those look to be EVAP lines. The nipple on the bottom of the PS pump is where the return line from the box goes to.

Holy shit, you posted pictures! And there is some great progress!

Yeah, the nipple on the bottom of the pump is the steering box return line, you need it.

The vacuum line are just emission stuff, I would plug em, it will run fine, but you might get a code. My truck didn't have those.

The plugs, I think one is for the rear lights, fuel pump, ect and one is for the interior stuff. I will go look at mine and check it out if you want.

Nice, and to think my dumba** has problems replacing just a fuel line since filter has sooo much rust it won't budge. Looks great.

Kyle, your truck is a different year and will have a different harness (OBDI vs OBDII)... That extra plug should be the harness for the electrical solenoids of the trans..Take the harness from the auto trans and dissect it to verify which wires you will need...

Sounds good guys. To the shop I go!

PS pump nipple is def the return line. I'm a dumbass.

I was really starting to get my truck dialed in until the engine took a shit. This whole engine swap is PISSING ME OFF. As of right now, I'm still an advocate for swapping in the same engine that came out of it. This 4.0 better be worth it.

I mounted up the auto trans (will have my m5od back next weekend) to located the engine so I could build the mounts
IMG_0832.jpg

Passenger side mount location. Fairly centered on the engine crossmember. Looks good.
IMG_0827.jpg

Driver's side mount location. Not so good. WTF. How does that happen. Its like 1/2 way off of the crossmember.
IMG_0829.jpg

Plus I find this. This space is reserved for my track bar when my axle is under full compression. This is a problem.
IMG_0833.jpg

So after finding that, I decided I'd better get the stock motor mounts to make sure the engine is in the correct location. Went to Oreilly's, had to order em. With the mounts, I can at least locate the engine in the correct position. May still use the Ruff Stuff motor mounts, I dunno.

If the engine is that far forward in the stock location (with the factory motor mounts), I'm going to have to build a new frame side track bar bracket and a new track bar. Damnit. 3.0 would've been too easy.

If everything was easy everone would have it. Don't doubt it yet, you will be happy once it is done. It in't much work to change those things. Just keep up the good work and keep your goals set and quit looking back on what would be easier.
