Thanks roto! Its a love hate relationship, me and my truck haha.
I posted this up on Pirate, so I figured I'd throw it over here as well and see what my TRS brethren have to say:
Alright guys, I've been thinking.
I haven't driven my truck in a LONG time, and I need my mojo back. I still haven't heard from the machine shop, and once I do, I still need to buy a rebuild kit, rings, gaskets, pushrods, headers, etc. Depending on what they tell me, I may need new pistons as well.
I'm guessing all of that to be damn near a grand by the time all is said and done. Plus probably months before it all comes together.
It look like 2 hours to pull the 3.0L. Stupid easy. I'm sure putting one back in would be the same.
I'm thinking of buying a junkyard 3.0L (~500 bucks), bolt it in, and be driving it again in a weekend. Then take my time building the 4.0L and swap it in at a more convenient time, like after graduation, after I get another DD, whenever.
Another option would be to buy an oil pump, fix the 3.0L I've got, and toss it back in there. I don't really trust a 183k motor that has been run dry for a while though. I'd call the 500 bucks for a <100k motor insurance that it won't crap out on me in a week.
I know what I was thinking when I dove into the 4.0 swap, but I may have been a bit ambitious. All this shit is taking WAY too long.
What do you guys think? It'll still be gutless, but will probably run better than the 3.0L that was in it, and it'll get it back on the road.
