ended up cutting the center out of the auto one like I had planned, and went ahead and installed it.
Got the clutch installed. trans installed. fluid in trans. changed the engine oil. bled the slave. added coolant. topped off ps pump.
I just put my 3.0 trans harness on it to see if it would work. Starter doesn't even attempt to turn over.
The engine harness has 2 plugs that mate with the trans harness (for the auto). My 3.0 harness fits one of them. I looked at the auto trans harness. one of the plugs is identical to my 3.0 harness (obviously). That plug has the speedo sensor plug on it, and I'm thinkin reverse lights, so that's all I would need.
The problem is (and why I think my 3.0 harness didn't work) there's one wire that jumps from the 3.0 style engine harness plug to a component plug that's attached to the other style engine plug (follow that?). That component plug is the neutral safety switch for the auto trans.
SO, I read where I can jump wires to bypass it, but that means I"ll have to use the auto harness, with all of the other unnecessary crap on it. Also, I don't think the reverse light plug is the same on the auto as it is on the manual, so I'd have to track that down, repin the correct plug so it'll attach to the manual, etc.
I'm not sure what I'm gonna do at this point. My plan as of now is to go down there, jump that one wire to bypass the NSS, and see if the thing starts. If it starts and runs fine, then I can worry about cleaning up the auto harness and finding a way to make the reverse lights work, or finding a way to make the manual harness work, or whatever.
