daily doubler build

Bray, what type of pin is it? If it's a DT (Deutsch) connector, you can probably get them from RadioShack.

Beat me to it John.

I dunno what type it is, but I could probably pick it out of a lineup. I'll have to stop in and see what they've got.

The ME Formula/Baja lab used to have an DT pin set and the crimp tool for installing the pins....

Right on. I talked to a dude that spends alot of time in the robotics lab and he didn't know what I was talking about haha. I'll have to start poking around. I'll find something.

I got my hood lined back up so it would latch properly, wired up my CB, and dialed in my stereo again.

Tomorrow's a big day. Exhaust will be done, and I'll know how it really runs.

Bray I have several harnesses in the shop. You are more than welcome to any of it if you need it. Plus it would give you some road time on the truck.

The group who I go with to the Cliffs is looking at May 8th for a run. So if you are ready by then and John can go let's hit it.

I think I've still got the black plug that I cut off from the auto harness. If I have that, I can just steal the pins and wires from that. We'll see.

The truck is at the exhaust shop now. I'm excited to see how it runs tonight.

If all is well, May 8th is a real possibility. Day trip for sure though.

We're getting togehter this weekend to dicsuss future wheeling trips. May 8th was one that we were thinking about. Day trip of course.

Didn't get the exhaust done today. Gotta pick it up tomorrow. I've been chattin it up with the exhaust dude, he said he's got an OBD-II scanner. He's gonna get the exhaust done tomorrow morning and plug it in to see if anything's up. Hopefully all is well.

Exhaust work was done yesterday. There's an upstream o2 sensor that comes off the engine harness on the passenger side. That's fine. The driver's side one is integrated into the trans harness. He plugged them both in and hooked up the scanner.

Threw all kinds of EVAP codes. That's fine. Also said that one of the o2 sensors was connected to a downstream plug. I don't even have a cat, downstream doesn't exist haha.

So I drove it home (still runnin a little rough, cuts out under hard load) and pulled the trans harness. I got the old auto harness and started repinning my trans harness so everything was going to the correct location. I ended up having to repin the whole damn harness. They're completely different.

Now my speedo works again. 4lo works with the switch. Reverse lights work. Since I got all of those right, I assume I pinned the upstream o2 sensor correctly as well. Still runs not-so-good.

Its pretty quiet - even with the cat delete. I'm thinking mice built a nest in my muffler while it was laying on the shop floor for 6 mos or whatever. They chewed up my hood insulation anyways. There's mice everywhere down there.

Would that cause my truck to run like it is? Hesitates under load. Acts like a plug wire is going bad, but I've got new plugs and wires on it.

Any ideas?

Oh, and I drove it to school today. The trailer is gone. Back to DD duties.

What plugs did you use?? That motor calls for double platinum plugs, if you don't run DP's, it will run wierd. I bought regular platinums for mine one time, I got about 500 miles out of them and started running shitty, so stick with the DP's, and not Bosch brand, you might as well run a lawnmower plug in it...Is it throwing any codes still besides the downstream O2??

Hmm, not for sure. Got em from oreilly, and told them I wanted OEM replacements. They're Motorcraft.

Haven't had a scanner on it since I re-did the harness. I may swing by Autozone this evening to see if they can plug into it.

Grab a set of Autolite double platinums, they run the best in the 4.0L's...

Ive ran autolite coppers in mine since the week I got it with no problems.

What did you end up doing for an ecu? Still on the auto?

I picked up a manual ECU. It was out of a 97 Ex, OHV 4.0, manual trans, but had all the fancy options (power windows, locks, etc.).

This is the ECU number: F77F-12A650-GC

And it said it was compatible with this: Explorer '97 Elec Cont Unit (ECU); (firewall mtd), 6-245 (4.0L), OHV, MT, Fed, ID F77F-GC

I had to adjust the idle quite a bit at the cable (using the Ex cable too). It was idling WAY too low.

It idles down super fast between shifts too. I'll run by a 'zone and see what codes its throwing.
