i would love to have a 5-axis or 6-axis at work but they wont listen to me when i tell them we need one :icon_twisted:

heres just a small update. nothing is finished yet cause i havent decided on how i want it. i may move the terminal cups down to the front of the box below the amp. i still need to figure out how to hid the rest of the wiring though too. after im sure i have it how i want it, i will probably carpet it. hopefully in a gray that matches my interior. anyways, it fits in there just like it should, leaves me plenty of room back there still too.

keep in mind that i'm not making a competition product, its just my daily driver.

i'm also not building this box around a specific sub, its specific to my car.

just for reference, the speaker in the illustration has a 4-1/2" mounting depth and a 4" diameter magnet. (just realized that the mounting depth i used for mock up isnt very deep) its a 10" sub with a 9" mounting hole. the internal volume is 1248 cubic inches, or about .72 cubic feet per speaker,

i'm going through kind of a space problem too...

mine is a daily driver as well, i just want to be boomin a little bit, wouldn't mind being able to hear it from a little bit away you know?
-------------------
mine is also specific to my truck, but i'm way more limited on space than you are lol
-------------------
what i ran into a problem with, is i had everything good and measured and planned out, until i realized i was using exterior measurements, so my mounting depth was actually 1.5" less (because i plan on using 3/4" plywood)
-------------------
what's an average magnet diameter? because that has to do alot with the depth of my box
-------------------
what are the dimensions of the box?

width x height x depth at top and bottom.
-------------------
how did you go about putting your "wedge" box together?

did you have the front and back pieces to be the very front and back pieces? like did you sandwich the other pieces together using the front and back pieces as "bread"? i heard you are supposed to do it that way.

i'd be interested in knowing if you could put together a more detailed step by step for a wedge box, as i can't find anyone really on here or on google.

Um baxtej44, you only really lose 3/4" of an inch cause your sub mounts to the outside of the box.

think so? so 3/4" or more of the sub is on the outside?

what number is without the part that is outside the sub then? top mounting depth or bottom mounting depth?

some sites only have one, some sites have both... so i'm confused!

sub mounting depth is measured from the back or the rim to the end of the mag. so part of your mounting depth is eat up by the thickness of your box material.

duh i guess i never thought of that lol.. i'm not exactly the brightest crayon in the crayon box apparently lol

so say my interior measurement is 5" deep at a point, i would have 5.75" inches of mounting depth?

so i would probably want no bigger than a 5.5" mounting depth?

but still dunno if i look at top mounting depth or bottom mounting depth

from the outside of the front face of the box, to the inside of the rear face. i hope that makes sense... your speaker mounts to the outside of the box, but the magnet will hit the inside of the box if you dont have enough room. so for the box, if your max depth overall is 5", and you are using 3/4" mat'l, you have approx 4-1/4" max mounting depth.

well maybe my box will work out anyway

i scooted my passenger seat up to see how much room i could get behind there while still being somewhat comfortable

9 inches deep at the bottom
5 inches at the top
13 inches tall
about 20 inches wide...

how does that sound?

????????

if your box internally is 5 inches you really have, 5.75 inches useing 3/4'' mdf.

maybe just a different way to say it.

doesnt sound too far off from mine, and mine has fit both of the 2 different subs i have test fit in it. you can always get shallow mount subs too. how does it come out as far as volume?

no, not internally. overall... externally.

those measurements are external

so 8.25" mounting depth at bottom
4.25" mounting depth at top
13" height - 1.5" material = 11.5"
20" width - 1.5" material = 18.5"

.677 cubic feet according to bcae1.com

doesn't seem like much, especially when i have to take away for the volume of the sub itself...

not sure i want really tight bass, idk i guess. how well do "tight" enclosures do with like low rap beats. when i say low i mean like... drawn out instead of like a hit on a bass drum off a drum set you know? how a bass drum doesn't last very long, and it's tighter? maybe more comparable to a tom or something.

would it be worth it to do the "main part" those above dimensions, then continue it constrained to the drivers seat position?

so basically it would continue the whole cab, just would be alot more nailing and shit.

thinking that isn't worth it.

i want a 12", just cuz it will be lower bass, and it sounds cooler to say you have a twelve lol... but i'm not sure .677 cf is enough

if i did my math right with this new design (i will call it the passenger side box) for a 6 inch diameter magnet, at the top (the narrower part), i will have a mounting depth of 6.15 inches!

that ain't too bad! we'll round that to 6 inches

i'll start looking around now for mounting depths no bigger than 6 inches, as I would say 6" is being too close to the back of the mdf, correct?

6 is still a really close number but there are alot of subs that are 5'' 5 3/16 ect.

Those are all in my price range, but the three top ones are sort of pushin it... unless you really think i will absolutely love the money i spent if i go a bit higher, but i'm not going to go over $200 for the sub, because i'll still need to get an amp and build the box/wire everything
