My daughter wrecked her car. 16 years old and rear-ended a guy in a Mitsu Montereo. Her car is a super clean 2000 Maxima that I gave her 6 months ago when she got her license. Insurance going up 40%.:annoyed:

Sorry to hear that. Glad she is okay. Was she texting?

Ouch...

But a 2000 Maxima for a 16 y/o girl!? Isn't that a little on the fast side?

yea thats not surprising. teens pay no attention to the road, and they wonder why they cant have a sports car for their first car. glad shes alright. but i feel for whomever she hit. if i got run down by a 16 year old they would wanna stay in their car. i REALLY like my ranger. :)

Neighbor kid got his license in the morning and wrecked 2 cars by sundown.

Thats why I always leave a hitch in my receiver hitch... that way there isn't too much damage done to my truck (hopefully) and the ball takes the brunt of it.

Ditto.

My truck was hit from behind by a Camry. Chipped the paint on my hitch, that's all, but that Camry suffered far worse. :icon_rofl:

I always leave my hitch on too but its a double edged sword, yes it would help in a rear end collision.... but the shin to hitch collisions are getting really old.

Is your daughter okay? I guess it wasn't her fault.

The first time I wrecked, it was in my dad's '87 K5 Blazer. It was raining and I was coming out of a right-hand turn. I must've goosed the throttle too much because the back end snapped around and I overcorrected. Ended up in the ditch hitting a 4" maple tree. It unseated the left-rear tire bead, bent the bumper, and dented the fender. I drove the truck like that until it spun a rod bearing 4 months later.

Short wheelbase + inexpeirence = bad things.

She's fine - just freaked out. Her fault - was just looking down to grab her drink, looked up, BAM. I guess it's a cheap lesson to learn about paying more attention when driving considering it just folded up the hood and bent the front clip in. The maxima was mine, got the ranger and gave her the car - it was the cheapest way out. Insurance is a beyotch though, $600/yr for the wife's Honda, $380 for the ranger, $2285 for the kid!!! I love that car though, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat - fast, quiet, reliable as hell. I've owned it for 10 years and the only non-maintenance part I ever replaced was the starter.

Find a cheap Ranger for the kid. She'll have a hard time killing that one. Besides, the 4-banger is so slow, she won't get into too much trouble.

Not a bad idea. Might teach her some humility too. She's so stuck up she used to get pissed if I made her ride in my truck. It wasn't cool enough. I think it's way more cool than anything else we've got - ok, other than the 1957 MGA yard car I have.

My parents first let me drive our '87 K5 Blazer. The thing was a big beast, but I loved it all the same.

A Ranger, especally a 4-banger will teach her right. If she doesn't like it, then she has the option of walking.

Get that kid a first gen 4-banger... without air conditioning.:D
