well i guess id say the craziest vehicle recovery would be using a horse and a rope.

working on a large ranch, we would have to load our horses onto a trailer to get anywhere on the ranch in a timely fashion. sometimes out on the range our bone stock chevy trucks would get stuck miles away from the headquarters so we'd unload all the horses and one horse would pull the truck from the front. there wasnt a time that we couldnt get the truck out using this method.

the first time we did this, the boss was out with us and he wanted to just ride back on horseback to the headquarters and get another truck to pull it out. well my dad didnt like to waste time so he hitched up his horse and had me drive the truck(i was 8 at the time). the boss was kinda being a smartass and didnt want my dad to even try. he thought it was just a waste of time. well sure enough after some spurring and yelling... my old man got the horse to start pullin the truck just enough to gain better traction. ever since, the boss hasn't questioned my dad about anything. it was actually a pretty cool first time experience.

well i just though id share some good memories and wanted to hear any cool recovery stories from u guys.

Well, I can't beat that but I do laugh at a time when my buddy borrowed his wife's car to get to work down on the range (near Bismark ND) but left the windows down. Came back and the horses ate all the vinyl off the steering wheel, dash and seats. :annoyed:

Whats the definition of 1 horsepower anyway?

One equine horsepower = a shitload of torque.

James Watt pulled the numbers out of his arse. I think he estimated how much force a horse turning a capstan was pushing with and timed the revolutions. Someone later tested horses and found they could develop something like 15hp for short bursts but for any amount of time were capable of less than one horsepower.

i know a guy who lives up on a steep hillside and drives a water truck.one day he parked it in the way of his girlfriends car before leaving so she got the brilliant idea of moving it herself.she hopped in fired it up and let it slip backwards down hill as she tried to find the right gear to taker off in.the rear axle went of the ledge and dangled 50-100 feet above the road below.in a panic her sister in laws got her chevy half ton 4x4 and another while she held the brakes.they then proceeded to hook the two trucks up to the water truck, wound those poor chevies tight and yanked until that huge truck came out.i showed up as they were making the last pull with the tires on all three trucks spinning up a storm.those wild eyed redneck girls were one hell of a sight yanking so hard on their trucks you almost thought they were trying to make the shortbed trucks into long beds!

So if I strapped a Ranger body on top of four horses i'd have a sick ass crawler that's only 4hp? :dunno:

I will have to add one recovery that left me shaking my head and walking away.

I'm in a brand-name department store's auto section watching a great big brand new $50K Yukon thats up on a lift getting 4 new bling-bling dubs and tires.

But wait, that's not the worst of it.

Their certified crew didn't have it on the lift properly so the Yukon shifted left to half-off the lift. Morons scattering everywhere. I couldn't watch anymore.

Then the smartest of them grabbed a forklift, got it under the falling side of the Yukon (not caring about crushing both door shells) and was in the middle of lifting it back on the rails when the manager came in shouting "What the he** are you doing??? Just let it down!!"

I don't go there for oil changes anymore.

Can you guys stand another one? My bro drove tow truck 4awhile, one snowy night this girl called in saying her 4wd had slid off to the side of a mntn road, and she was too scared to try and move it... My bro had to go up there in his 2wd flatbed, and try to pull her to safety. Unfortunately, her heavily loaded rig with her cat in it didn't want to cooperate, and ended up rolling over the side, while she watched. Well the boss had to come out, and try to rectify the situation, he pulls up in his K5, and proceeds to set up the winch, but he left both doors open. Murphy was workin' overtime this night, so of course the blazer ends up tumbling down the hill too, ripping the doors off. Anyway, the cat was okay, and my bro had to find 2 new doors for the bosses rig.

i dropped the front tires of the ranger into a ditch, sittin on the frame, and my buddy pulled me out with his taurus.....

craziest one i ever saw was a track hoe that was buried almost to the top of the cab. It had fallen in a hole or something while they were digging and they couldn't get it out right away and it rained really hard over night and washed all the dirt back in around the track hoe. So now you have 50-60,000 pound machine buried 7-8 ft deep in mud. It took 8-10 hours, two or three more track hoes and two cranes to extract it but it did come out. it was quite the site.

One time me and a friend helped some guys get their quad unstuck. they had burnt out their winches and were up to the seats in mud. 3 of us pulled sideways on the winch cable while it was attached to a tree. somehow it worked :dunno:

made the first mistake by going in 1 truck, then getting stuck on a berm with the front tires not touching we had to walk 2 miles to get cell service, then another 5 miles to meet my buddy with my truck since he wasnt going to drive my truck at night 7 miles up a tough trail to my buddies truck got him unstuck in no time

a few years ago my brother hit a rain slick road and slid into a farmers field. my pop coming to the rescue (i forget if he was in his aerostar or a b2) hit the same slick spot and slid next to my brother. had to call tow truck to get both out.
