Crawlin's Build Thread

Parts donor truck 4.0 m50d 4x4 31" ATs. .. everything is in great condition. It was in a massive hailstorm so the body and windshield took some damage but everything is mechanically very sound.

wow, nice find. Its almost to nice to tear apart.

Did some work on the axles, I cut off the old spring perches on the 14 bolt and got both axles ready for gears. While Dana 60 shafts are stout, the outer stubshafts on the 60 neck down quite a bit, I can see why people break/upgrade them when they start bolting on big tires.
random pre swap numbers
rear driveshaft 60.5" flange to flange after doubler 54", front driveshaft 38"
20" to bottom of frame
18.25" to t case
9.25" rear diff 8.8
8.75" front diff d35
27" to body

Update time,

I stripped the doubler back down for final assembly, and finished the shifters on each case, the front lever has been clocked and the rear lever was removed and then cut and turned to clear the adapter plate and fit my shift linkage design. I ended up using a cut up 1350 and 1354 stock linkage welded to 3/8" rod and my old bmx bars for the shifters and bolted them to the transmission in the stock position. For the hole in the floor I made several straight cuts with my sawzall and then beat the sections of sheet metal down and around themselves so there wouldnt be a sharp edge to worry about. An '90 Aerostar speedo cable was used for the extended length needed to fit the rear case. I still need to figure out some sort of boot to seal off the cab, and make some driveshafts.

I cut down a 3" body lift to 1" with my chop saw and threw it under the cab while replacing my very worn body mounts, and then made some modifications to the floor. I cut enough out to remove the body lift completely and the doubler will still fit, I will probably leave it in till I do a few other things as I have already found the extra clearance to be very helpful.

I broke one of the damn plastic shift guides during assembly and had to go pull another case for a replacement:annoyed:

Also yanked out the jumpseats, saving 46 lbs and alot of cargo space, I never used them anyway.

Thanks. They ended up low and out of the way and shift really nice.
nice idea on the shift handles, where did you find your seats
Thanks, I could not find any slim profile shift knobs I really cared to use and this was cheap. The seats came with a Bronco II that I bought. I believe the guy said he got them from quadratrac? They are made of thick waterproof material and bolt right in to the ranger.

I pulled the ttb, and started cleaning the frame for the SAS
