So the adventure begins,im offered a extended cab 91' 2wd w/ a 3.slow for cheap.........but the trans is "bad".
Lucky me,I was give'n a 88 bronco ii A4LD!so my thought was get a running extended cab 2nd gen for about 500 bucks said and done?
To good to be true.I (thought) knew that for the most part the A4LD's are interchangeable as long as I switch bellhousings and output shafts.I later found out that total disassembly is required to switch output shafts.I also noticed that 2 of the for now unknown sensors are slightly different.my ebay manual should be here in 2 days, pics should be posted soon.im hoping that this can help me and others dive into these trans'.I have no experience rebuilding trans, but I am dedicated to learning.

Builds like this are great for the site! Looking forward to the build!

I just printed the manual, going over it now.......I cant wait to learn this automatic transmission thing,it really is overwhelming tho.does anyone know where I can get a prefferable free version of the factory service manual that theatsg manual refers to?

Wait I'm sorry. it might be the actual truck's service manual....

I think they are indeed referring to the ford manual, does anyone have a copy of it? So far it seems this manual is just I giant trouble shooting tree.it lacks detail that pertains to the actual task of tear down and re-assembly

Update, there is a difference in the neutral start switch and the converter clutch solenoid plugs are different between the 88' 4x4 and the 91' 2wd that came out of the truck.
The neutral start switch looks like an easy switch as far as unscrew and re install.
But the converter clutch solenoid shows no visible way to remove from outside, and im slightly nervous about them not being able to transfer over -_- so many stupid little changes through the years.I will post pics of the switches when I get home from work. Progress is a bit "slow" because I am also throwing a full width under my 90' and currently moving.

i may or may not be right here, but i would try to keep the original case and bellhousing together and and swap out the internals.

Thats the overall plan,I will be checking as many tolerances as I can as well.but life has put the project on hold.I start moving into a different place on monday.this weekend is also half off day at pick n pull, wich means if I can find a proper 5 speed im converting ;)

Ok,so ive been riding my streetbike to various pick n pulls after work and I found one!!!
A 5speed bolted behind a 3.slow that is.so this will not be a new thread,crash course 3.0 5speed swap.
This will also be my wireing nightmare because im not to hot with it.......only one way to learn tho!

This is the unicorn,5 yards and this is the only one I found

And since im so nervous about the whole thing.I took THE ENTIRE wiring harness, from front bumper to trans, including the ecu.

When your going through the tranny be sure and install new sprages, bushings, thrust washers, clutches and bands. Do not make the same mistake I did and disassemble the valve body on my C3. If your gonna tackle it yourself do the research and make sure you have a good diagram for the valve body. The rear sprag is the last to come out and the first to go in. You will need to know which one you have before ordering the master kit. Do not get in a hurry
!

Unfortunately/fortunatly I am no longer rebuilding the auto,I am swaping the truck to a 5speed. #3pedallife!
