Your '03 uses a returnless system. Start a separate thread describing your problem and you should get some good feedback. My 2003 4.0L 4WD has the same problem as the original post. I can turn the key to on (but not start) then turn off when I hear the fuel pump stop (about a second) then repeat a couple of times, then fire up with no problem. And there's no smell of fuel at all, so probably not a leaky injector. So the pressure/fuel is leaking back into the tank through the fuel pressure regulator, right?
My problems are that I don't know what the regulator looks like and I don't know where it's located. Seems that it should be somewhere between the fuel pump and the fuel rails but I'm not finding anything that would look like a fuel regulator. And I'm not seeing a regulator in any parts diagrams on the web, nor in parts searches at NAPA or elsewhere
Any advice?
