Ok I have read and read and read. But I have a 97 ranger 4.0 automatic transmission. Parked one night crank no start the next day. I'm leaning towards pcm but I can't find a real definitive test. I do know that according to my scan tool my coolant is 158 degrees even though I know it's 50ish. Voltage running to that sensor is only 3.5 volts from what I can tell. Any tests suggestions articles I need to read. The computer is an eec v thanks in advance for any help

VREF should be 5V. Maybe only after running?

Have you tried some starting fluid? IF you did what was the result?

PCM doesn't have a definitive test. It's just replace if EVERYTHING else checks out. That means verifying every input, compression, ETC.

I would do the 50/50 test Seniornoob suggests. If it starts and sputters, you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't you have an ignition problem. It will help narrow down what needs to be looked at.

It's not unheard of for a fuel pump to just suddenly die for some reason. I had an otherwise perfectly fine looking fuse kill my fuel pump once. I replaced the fuse and the truck fired right up, after a day of troubleshooting everything else before hand.

I'm hearing more and more reports of fuses that look good being bad. Guess ya gotta ohm 'em all out.

In my situation, I can't remember if I ohmed it out or not but there was brown residue of some kind on the pins where they go into the plastic. The only reason I even keyed in on it was because of a video I saw not long before that about a garage running into the same problem and replacing the fuse was the fix.

Tried starting fluid with no change. Sometimes it acts like it's trying to start and misses and backfires. Fuel pressure maintains a steady 38 psi. Have checked all fuses and cleaned fuse panels with contact cleaner. When is trying to start it usually seems like it fits a little and backfires as I let off of the key

It might be an ignition problem then or timing. Verify if you have spark on all your plugs. If that checks, then time to look at timing, like a sensor went bad or something. We'll try to help you narrow down the issue before parts start getting thrown at it. There's nothing worse than throwing a bunch of parts at a problem and it's still broke.

My money is on timing...Good fuel pressure and backfiring.
Pulling the plugs will also offer a visual aid (carbon, wet with fuel) as well as verifying that they are firing

Ok so spark on all cylinders I've noticed if I leave it at all night without battery hooked up and then hook up battery and immediately try to start it out almost starts and then no more. I think maybe injectors stuck on. Plugs were soaked cleaned them and taking upper manifold off to pull and check injectors

Ok update. Injectors are not stuck on, but almost every one of the Injector caps has fallen down into the motor there a good way to get them out?? And what's next??

Oh also all the injector read around 15.5 ohms. And I pulsed them and ran cleaner through them while I waited on new seals

Needle nose pliers? Tweezers? Chopsticks?

Ok I figured that was basically the answer... can I pull plugs and use compressed air through injector port and catch it coming out spark plug

IDK how they'd traverse the valves.

Just had a thought. Small shop vac. Put a a smaller hose or drinking straw in the end of the hose and tape it up. Go fishing.

I've done this for a few things...
