Crank but no start

Had the exact same issue with my truck. Exact same.

Still not entirely fixed, but I narrowed it down to a dead lift pump in the fuel tank, which I believe is causing the frame rail pump to cavitate causing air bubbles in the fuel line. Put your fuel pressure tester on, hold the release button while you have somebody crank the truck. See if you get an abnormal amount of air bubbles.

Also, a blown/ruptured regulator will not hold pressure.

still notta

Thank lead head but i check my fuel presure both ways and its good and i put a new fuel pump in it like 3 month ago. 1990 b2 only has one in tank pump. Well put in the new spark plug cap rotor and wires. And nothing happened didnt change an damn thing. But i towed it home from work sunday about 5 mile and ran it in 2nd and 3rd gear and then pushed it in the my garage were it has set till today. I tried to start it when i first went to the garage and it came so close to starting that i thought it was going to run but then i think it flooded its self. So i nstalled new wires and check spark i have great blue spark and the plug were wet wet so i pulled the plug and cranked it over to blow out any fuel (with the fuel pump fuse out) I am begin to think it is bad bad flooded so i am going to let it sit with the plugs out for a few day well i am at monster jam finals :icon_hornsup: Sorry this is so long but i am getting really piss off :annoyed:

You sure you didnt shoot water down the intake? lol..

Perhaps something is still wet, popped fuse from being wet and having current go threw the wetness, new distributor and rotor? hmm not wet I assume? small ground wire taht comes off of the negative cable off the battery? .. Unplug everything and plug it in 1 by 1 and make sure all dry.. Water and Under Hood electric compenets dont like each other..

*@#$@!

Well I worked on it last night. I put a little oil in the cylinders just incase it had washed them down when it got flooded. Install the spark plugs and again nothing changed. I check every wire and eletrical plug for wetness and it be sitting 3 weeks i would think it would be dry by now. So I pulled the fuel pump fuse and cranked it over and while it was cranking it put the full pump fuse back in the engine spins fast when the fuel get to it but still no start. I check spark it good fuel presure its good and i pulled the upper intake off just to double check that a rag or if water had gotten in all ok. So NO CLUE:annoyed: I am out of ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:shok:

My Bronco II used to act like that anytime I sprayed the engine off. I would have to let it dry out for a while and then it would restart.

My 2 cents (theory) your plugs are getting wet. assuming with gas your getting good spark but not at the right time. so maybe wires are in the wrong order as far as the timing goes. have bought a couple rigs that have had that problem. But that doesnt explain why it doesnt run! just replacing the seals etc. hmmm! not much help !!! Vacumn leak?.

are you getting fuel in the vacuum going to the fuel regulator or can you smell fuel in the brake booster hose maybe it is sucking fuel thru the regulator to flood it.

have you done a compression check??
If compression test is good...120psi+ across the board. gotta wonder/suspect if you got some carbon under a valve or something....totally unrelated to the water pump...& just ugly coincidence. then yeah down to checking wires and grounds.

Seems like you have confirmed spark many times over....& yeah maybe plug wire/s in the wrong position??

then again...it ran prior to the water pump...should light right up. uhhhggg. feel'n your pain.

Maybe you have a tank of bad gas.....or a very nasty trick from a co-worker/ neighbor...water in tank?? you've mentioned the plugs were wet...wet with what?

try unplugging the FP relay again....the spray some starting fluid in the intake...see if it with fire and run briefly then....You'll need the aid of a buddy for this

thanks

Thanks for all the help everybody the plug are wet with gas cuz it will burn with a lighter. I am going to check firing order the only reason i havent is the rig does not back fire out the exhaust or intake. Still leaning toward bad flooded. Just by how wet the plug are when i take them out. I was told the if i have 38 PSI at the rail the regulator is good. Thinking when i degreased and washed it I got something wet and being hard headed I kept screwing with it till I had it bad bad flooded (instead of letting it dry). Took a air blower with a long extention on it and ran each piston down to BDC stuck the extention in till it was hitting the piston and blew air in each cylinder (this was last night) and i got a lot of gas fumes bad!. So letting it sit till tonight with the plug out till after work and we will try it again. Really starting to miss my bronco II. I will let everybody know. THANKS AGAIN:beer:

did you unplug the vacuum hose to the fuel regulator it may have good pressure but if it is pushing fuel through the diaphram to the intake manifold it will flood the motor do you lose fuel pressure fast when you turn the engine off it takes 5 seconds to smell the vacuum hose and it can ge into your brake booster and ruin the seals in there also. The only way it can flood is thru the injectors or the regulator. Also do you smell fuel on the dipstick you may need to change the oil before you start it up to protect all your bearings it takes just a little fuel to ruin the oil especially synthetic.

I am about to give up

:annoyed: Well i put the plugs back in it and tried to start it. It almost started I cranked on it and when i let off it hit for a couple seconds then died. So i removed the fuel pump fuse and tried it and it did it again. Put the fuse back in it. Cranked it and it stubled like it was going to start for a couple seconds the went back to just cranking. And now its back to being flooded pulled a couple fuses and they are wet. :dunno:. I pulled the vacuum line off to the fuel regulator and its dry and does not smell like gas. I will go check it again just to be sure.

K i went and checked the fuel regulator its not leaking the vacuum line is not wet and does not smell of gas so the reg is not leaking I almost was hoping it was.

Tell me if it has spark WHILE your cranking. Mine had spark until i went to crank it. I went crazy following wires and testing pins. It was the hall effect sensor in the distributer. Pain in the ass to replace but it fixed my no start while cranking ordeal. See if it will roll start if its a stick, thats a good way to check.

Its alive its alive

OK well of all the stupid thing I have ran acrossed this is something that will piss anyone off:icon_twisted:. Ok remember way back when this first started. I put a new cap and rotor on. I check timing my timing is way off so I thought it had jumped timing. So I pulled off the cap and compared it with the one I took off and the post were about a 1/4 off from the old cap. So I put the cap back on and timed it. I turned the dist. so far the the TFI was hitting on the valve cover but it would run. So i pulled the dist moved it one tooth on the cam and put it all back togethe. It started and ran it still has a little miss when it warms up but it is alive:yahoo: ALL BECAUSE OF A STUPID CHEAP CAP FROM CHECKER AUTO PART GOING TO STAY WITH MOTORCRAFT NEXT TIME :pissedoff: So pretty sure now I got something wet and then I made a hole new problem when I tuned it up.

Excellent!! I know that feeling, but when you hear it run all those bad feelings go away.
was going to suggest finding #1 tdc then lining up dist. but made no sense that would change!!!

?

Yeah not sure why the timing would have change other than that cap was a little different:icon_confused: but its a live and running back and forth to work. I drove my crawler back and forth for three weeks and now I want a 4.0 in the bronco II :icon_welder:so i guess I will start looking for one. I didnt realize how much more power the 4.0 liter has LOL. So looking for a running 4.0 liter in colorado or eastern utah area.
