couldn't think of a better way to spend a sunday morning

it all goes back to the saying SHIT HAPPENS. I think my guiltiest one was when I ran out of asbestos bags and ran some asbestos drywall to the bed of my Ranger:icon_idea: . that was one dusty SOB. I think my death will involve mesothelioma:dunno:

Asbestosis and asbestos-related lung cancer are dose responsive diseases, which means that only people who inhale a lot of asbestos are likely to get these diseases. Mesothelioma, which is the more severe and less common disease associated with asbestos is not dose responsive. Some unfortunate individuals can get mesothelioma from very low levels of asbestos exposure.

So, if one walks through a cloud of microscopic asbestos fibers, one can be in deep, long range, non-remediable trouble....and certifications for lead removal!!!! This is getting crazy.

lead required certification since at least 1989(not sure exactly when but an older vet of the trade i work with started then and was first certified). You know your shit regarding dose responsiveness however this dose can vary greatly between you and I. Also consider that since asbestos is naturally occuring you are bound to breathe in more than you think

Also my asbestos exposure is far and away higher than most

Asbestos is very hazardous. the issue with the cancer is only one of three illnesses asbestos related. As long as asbestos is left undamaged and undisturbed it is harmless.

Asbestos is hazardous when airborne. Asbestos tile/insulation/whatever is harmless when solid, until it is made friable. After that, you don't want to be near it.

I have asbestos insulation around the wiring in my house. Am I afraid of it? Not in the least.

allow me to requote myself "As long as asbestos is left undamaged and undisturbed it is harmless."

Great clarification however

That's all it was, clarification. And I almost never get to use the word 'friable' anymore.

Did not know that, and to think we got toys with leaded paint.

Yeah,we got a Natural Gas compressor station. Built in the 60's.
Due to the mineral's natural resistance to heat and fire, asbestos was used frequently in Pumping station buildings.

Got like eight huge pumps running three 30" pipelines it can deliver 1.5 Bcf/d of natural gas to the Midwest... I think the pipes are 30" dia.:icon_surprised:

we used to put insulation in each others pants so our buddies would have to run around scratching their nuts all day in football......

Wonder what will happen to those poor souls in 20yrs.
