I need the front replaced . it has the cheap advance yellow shocks on it and since it has the stx high ryder - 1.5 - 2" lift, will stock shock absorbers not listed for STX work ??

They might work but may limit travel. I tore apart an STX and measured the shocks at 1/2" longer [closed] than the stock BUT I doubt they were oem. I used the parts in my race truck so don't have the stock measurements. If you can figure out the measurement for closed position you could use the following pdf to find a shock with that closed measurement and the longest open measurement and then take number and cross it to whatever shock maker you want.

Of course someone on site may have all the info needed and post up their findings....
Good luck,

Richard

I have the front shocks removed and with them extended all the way, they bolt up.
If the truck needs to move upward, then the shock would be too short ?

I tried fitting standard Ranger shocks on my 89 STX with factory lift. They were very close to being extended all the way at normal ride height. I search hard and found Heckethorn make shocks specifically for the hi-rider. At least they did 15 years ago. Once I found those I stopped looking, so I don't know of anyone else that makes them for the hi-rider.

I did like the Heckethorn shocks and they lasted around 100K miles.

I ordered a pair of Gabriel Ultras, which states spec. for the 1987 stx high ryder . Most shocks listed on ebay will state if for the high ryder stx or not.
70 for the pair, free s/h
